Well then we don't have to convince you that Obama's a crook either... But he's right, it's the same as government scholarships. The colleges prices are so high because the government's paying for it. I got a dental procedure done for 1/3rd of the price by not using my insurance. I would've had more of a co-pay rather than just paying off of my insurance.
Individualism, as it stands, could be ruination of us all. 7 billion people on 1 small planet -- my point is, well... you figure it out.
I am NOT a fan of Oh-blah-blah, but I think it important to point out that in his signing statement he explains why he signed that bill, which provisions he finds objectionable, and why he finds them so. We can't put the whole thing on the man's head, and though I would rather he'd vetoed the thing it seems that it would have been relatively pointless to do so. The same Congress that put it on his desk would override the veto and that'd be that. It pains me to speak in Oh-blah-blah's defense. I figured him for the corporate whore that he is long before he was nominated by his party, and I've seen nothing to make me rethink my position. Still, it's important to maintain whatever degree of objectivity one might be able to achieve.
It's not just about Obama, it's about the Constitution. That's supposed to be the law of the land, the people's way to over see that our government isn't getting too corrupt. They're not supposed to be allowed to overthrow the constitution the way they are doing. But what are the people going to do about it? reelect the same asshole who disregards the law of the land? or stand up and fight back. The hippies sat around the white house dropping LSD and smoking weed the day it became illegal, I wonder what happened to that rebellion, and if our ignorance will be the death of us all.
We've had a pretty long run of presidents who aren't so great. What upsets me most about Obama is that he seemed to run as Something Different--the whole "hope and change" thing. So many of his supporters seemed to see him as some sort of messiah. Most of us who have been around longer didn't get our hopes up quite so high, but there's plenty of disappointment out there just the same.
Important things like consumer protection, environmental protection, even contract law are all political interference with the free market. Let's also make slavery legal again because the market will sort it out.
Actually, there's proof that Obama specifically pushed for that line about indefinitely detaining citizens. Ask the senators. Obama's just saying shit in an attempt to keep the protestors at bay. He always does.
You're nuts!!! No one wants slavery. Except big businesses. Obama would be more likely to legalize slavery.
So... we remove all regulations, like RP and the GOP want to do and let big business have it's way. Not sure how that's helping the situation, but you're the boss. Have fun.
I agree, Obama's an ass and didn't do a damn thing he claimed he was going to. But really, dude, take a look at a single person who ran/running for president, Santorum, Obama, Romney, they're all shitbags, so it doesn't really matter. they all suck.
I very very much agree, but I'm not so sure he'll actually get in, which makes me sad. The man is revolutionary though. :2thumbsup: The problem is that alot of people who would vote for him won't because he's republican. Another thing is that just electing a different president won't change much, no matter how great the president is. We need to start over completely, because even if the president isn't corrupt, everyone who works for/with him is. And I don't think we should just 'cross out' the whole catholic health care thing, that's a big deal. It doesn't just change things for catholics, it changes things for EVERY single religion out there because it saying that the Government has the right to tell us what to do regardless of our morals or beliefs, and if the Government has the right to tell us what to do, they have a right to tell us what to believe. It's beyond just catholics standing against abortion, this is the Government taking yet another hit on the Constitution.
when the government makes religious institutions follow the same laws as everyone else, it isn't really discrimination based on religion, it's just not letting catholics take a shit on women's rights to healthcare.
Let me guess...you're an athiest? No, but seriously, it's actually about letting the Government shit on the constitution. If you cared about your country, you would know that a huge part of the constitution is religious freedom, which, in forcing a religion to do something that's against their morals, being violated and disregarded by the Government. That's not women's rights to health care. I'm a women, and I don't consider myself unhealthy if I don't take the pill. The pill has NOTHING to do with healthcare, it's just people who don't want to get pregnant(who can blame them?) which is perfectly fine, they should use it all they want, just don't make me or anyone else pay for it, especially not if it's against their morals.
the pill does a lot of things for women other than stopping them from becoming pregnant, and it should be an option for all women. i believe that religious freedom should be about personal choice, not the choice of a business (which is what catholic schools and hospitals are) to deny a person something which is in line with that person's own religious beliefs/morals.
Dude, I've been on the pill before. Yeah sure, it helps with periods. Big deal. I was also sick (Headache, fever, nausea, stomach cramps, inconsistent periods, weight gain, bloating. I ever ended up in the hospital) and it can cause major problems in the future. But, there are natural, non birth control ways to take care of problems with your period, and I think that should be an option. Yeah but, what would the world do without Catholic hospitals(which count for 12% of healthcare institutions)? Or even Catholic charities? Yeah, that's right. This bill forces catholic charities to fund it too. Most of them will close down because they won't pay for that. We'll loose tons of shelters, food pantries, relief services, everything. Also, the only hospital near me? It's catholic. I've ended up in that emergency room. If this doesn't get repealed, they said they'll close their doors. Me and many people in my area won't have a hospital anymore. Look, I'm not catholic, and I'm a liberal, but I still think this is wrong. Try seeing it from their point of view. This isn't just a belief system for them, it's their life. They live it everyday. It's not fair that they have to violate their consciences just to provide someone with birth control. If someone worked in a typical (nonreligious) place of business and they disagreed with something that that place of business said, stood for, or did, they'd either keep their mouths shut and ignore it, or quit. But apparently just because their catholics and everyone disagrees with them means that they're opinions mean jackshit and we can just shit all over them and their beliefs because they can't do anything about it, right? Guess what, they will.
