Actually, Very early on in the Internet (cira 1998), many types of websites were and still are considered as E-magazines or Electronic magazines. All print magazines hold copy rights on all content. The court upheld the same for E-magazines or (websites).

Most people have a misconception about copy rights. First they think that if they are the author, than they own the rights to copy it. False. You have to make "a date and claim" to having those rights or you don't have them at all. REAL NAME ©1997

This claim has to be witnessed and a actual date be recorded and verifiable. Verifiable as in real proof to a court. A fact of that date. How do you prove a date back in the past? Think.

People think that the government somehow magically protects your copyright to your property. No. You have to hire a lawyer and go to court and sue for infringement of your copyright. Costs you money and time.

In court a claim to a copyright is cut and dry. Each party shows their evidence. All done.

Whoever was first, WINS!

The one with the earliest date. "I was first." "I win."

The verifiable earliest date, with witnesses or a dated clam by a certified public account, or a document from the Library of Congress, office if copyright which shows your recorded date with them. Real Proof.

Since, tons of people can read and witness the date of any magazine, and their is also a monthly publication (Reader's Guide) that indexes (lists) all magazines (Periodical Literature), with actual story titles, then any of these can be in court as a witness and as evidence date, to the earliest date. The same is true for websites and books.

And yes, Tillerwah, we can create our owe website and our own bulletin board and collect stories and make a book. I have our's hidden, that we were using for the nationwide rock festival affair. We started using it. But that too, died from lack of interest. LOL not funny.

As I said above, posts are not really stories. At least they are not good stories.
The art of telling a tale to everyone is a different thing entirely. Spinning your yarn. Captivating the listeners. Crafting and honing your story. Explaining to a whole different culture.

Now that we have discussed the reason NOT to take the time to do what Rita was talking about, I THINK,..... there is always the POORMANS copyright which has been tested and upheld in federal Court.

How do POORMEN/WOMEN Copywrite (actually it is protecting your stuff from copywrite infringment).

1. you write,create, make your song or story in a written form, logos too etc.

2. you then get it notorized (even if you cannot get a notary you can take the front page of ANY legal publication that has a print date.

3. combine the two with a single page letter to yourself and or the Government office of Copywrite (library of Congress) stating that you wrote,designed,created this on _x__Date then.......

4. combine them ALL in the same envelope and seal them up.

5. Take them tp the United States Post Office whose POST MARKING system is still considered as legal as a conformed copy given by any Court. Because the Post office is a FEDERAL agency

6. Send this packcket to YOURSELF via Certified or Registered Mail

7.then HOLD ON TO THE LETTER and NEVER OPEN IT until you need it to present in Court when you need to prove it was yours first!

Now this DOES NOT Copywrite the material but it does prevent anyone from utilizing your IDEA/LOGO/STORY/SONG from being used by any other entity for a public printing and for any commerical Gain without saying you created the thing, wrote it and are due compensation for THEIR publishing/recording,printinge it etc.. OF course you need to know that your shit has been stolen and printed or used before this helps you recover damages but once you do YOU have the case that will win every time in Court.

This option had been tested in the Courts and came about because of the extreme amount of theft of OLD BLUES ARTISTS and FOLK WRITERS who lived in out of the way places, or as in some cases some could not even write so someone would hear it write down their material, publish or record it and no give the artist credit for the work. This was established to protect them and the artists VALUEABLE content/Music/story etc/logos from the theft of their stuff for economic gain or notority. This theft became extreamly prevelant in the 30's, 40's, 50's and 60s, when different SCUMBAGS were traveling around finding exciting music or storys in small town rural America and then stealing the music and making recordings or selling books making plenty bucks off the poor in some cases uneducated (a subjective term) folk who were in fact the creators of this material!.

NOW all of these things being said by Kenny or even me may mean a lot or little when it comes down to the fact of the work that Kenny and Nails have put into lighting fires under our old butts???

As I recall this all started when Rita stated that upon going back and reading the posts from the beginning, PAGE 1 to page 430 Rita made what I think is a very sailent overservation....THERE ARE MANY STORY IDEAS that have already been started by posting stuff here...SO I took it to mean that Rita was saying HEY if anyone wants to go review their past comments that there will be PLENTY INFO to develop your storys Kenny!!!!!!and with a little work can become a detailed "Story" for the GREAT SAGA that will be produced when Kenny has everybody writing there fingers to the BONE burning the candel at both end remembering the long strange trip we have all been on!

I thought it was a GREAT IDEA Rita and now see how much space on Hip Forumns we have taken on the HF Server just saying THAT AIN'T GOOD ENOUGH!! lol lol lol lol!

I THINK Rita was trying to HELP and damn ,it went all technical, and may even be confused as THERE WE GO AGAIN trying to get people to write storys that they may still not have the time, creative feeling, and may be feeling (as I think it was TooTs and the Maytalls who sang about it) this too became a ..."PRESSURE DROP" . Kenny I think we ALL trust your ability to know and protect anything that makes it to the secret place!! I know we do. It is just the time it has taken to get to where you think we are on this, is still passing. It ain't fast enough, it is FRUSTRATING you as you see the possiable Financial gain to it all!? Rita did have an excellent question. I though so. I though that I gave some pretty good answers. Anyway, simply copying and pasting a post would not make a great story. Ask Cakes. I'll let her explain that.

If simple posts would make a great book, I would have done it already. Skip the Forum owner would have done it 5 years ago. Why would anybody need anybody to write a story if I could just drag and highlight, copy and paste all 248 pages here? Hell, why don't I just steal it all, and then ask Mary to delete everything. Me and Her could just do out own E-book and keep all the profits. LOL

Why? Cause if you sit down and think it out, you'll create a way way better story. That's why. And because I want for us all to feel a sense of ownership and pride, and our piece of the proceeds. A family project. Us.

This is very true. The best things to be created are from the heart. However, Cakes could use the money and Sag Darel having a very bad time right now for money. If the book was being marketed 3 months ago, he wouldn't be at risk of losing his pick up truck and he would have a roof instead of a truck roof. Not all of us are in a cash flow of any kind.
(Hint: not all of us own a house in H, a house in E, and a house in Origun, and have a income. Not saying who.)

Besides, just copying and pasting stuff is not fair. It's just plain lazy. When some of us are working are asses off on stuff. That's just not right. If I can type with two fingers that so can you all. If I can sweat five hours on a story than why shouldn't you. If the book sells, and we each produced 25 pages, then why should you get paid the same as me if I worked real hard to craft some cool stories that are actually selling the book and all you did was to copy and paste not so good filler?

Also, Chris, way should anyone pay for a book if they could read the very same thing for free, here? Answer: They wouldn't.

 

I just talked with Stacey on the phone. He sounded great. He wanted to tell me that the new Talbot book was out. Good Earth has a whole chapter. He had just talked with Calvin. He's hoping to get a laptop in the next couple of months. Says, "Hey" to everyone. Jazzed about OUR book. Wishes that he could. No computer.

 

David Contacted me also and Spud I am perty sure. Getting a copy of the Book hopefully by next week.

You make it all sound like all we have to do is sit around a campfire and talk and then POOF a book flies out of our asses. If only it were that simple.

I just got an old van. According to Mapquest.com it will cost me $1,200. to get from here to the fair and back. Ouch! Airlines', advance booking is about $360 round trip.

Hey Kenny .... The answer to your question YES... i'am still in the carpenters union. And I just renewed my OSHA 10 card ... So i'am good to go .... I just want a real job with real money. U know my friends I feel that this year is a make it or brake it year . I've been getting my ass kicked from the 1st of january....!! I know eye'm not alone. Is this scooter a big enough engine size bike to be allowed on the Freeways and the turnpikes? Some sizes are too under powered and are illegal on the interstate freeways.

Do check that out first.
