I was supposed to get a new starter put in my car today and the mechanic who has done most of the work on my car towed someones elses car and put my new starter into this other car, the car is exactly like mine except for the white racing stripes on the hood my car key even started it which blew my mind. So we find the owners who reported the car as stolen (which makes sense I would've too) and returned the car. It's not that big of a deal except now i'm out $300 and will probably have to buy another $300 starter for my car. Ugh! Totally bummed me out end rant.
presumably the mechanic had the registration details of your car? he took the wrong car, his mistake, why should you pay for that? id insist he stands the loss, not yourself and does the job on your car that he was paid to do. not good though that your car key started the other one..............worryingly theirs will probably start yours! maybe get some extra security on your car if you want to keep it.
Right! I guess 94 dodge neons have a universal key just for the ignition though because they had a hard time opening the door. I'll keep that in mind Dmfp lol
Yeah , I be damned if I would be paying for his mistake . I think i would be getting a new mechcanic too . If he can't pay close enough attention to simple details like identifying the right car to take and work on , then I don't think he would be working on my car .
Fuck that, it the mechanics fault for fixing the wrong car, he should pay for his own mistakes! I agree with Papa Wolf time to find a new mechanic, total incompetence on the mechanics part, especially if he has worked on you car before.
You have lost your mind if you pay him for work he didn't do. If the waitress at the cafe serves yours breakfast to someone else would you pay for that also? No repair no payment.
Two things... 1. You shouldn't have to pay for a starter twice, his mistake, his problem. 2. For everybody saying find a new mechanic... a guy can be an excellent mechanic and not a good business man.... You don't have enough facts to fire a guy you know nothing about.
anyone can make a mistake, hes worked on your car before so guess your pleased with his work, he wont make the same mistake twice. let us know how you get on. :2thumbsup:
luckily he didn't charge us for a second starter so it worked out pretty well and it turned out the person whose car was picked up is my co-worker! lol talk about a small town
Sounds like your ignition barrel is worn down. That's why both keys works. It always happens on older cars with traditional keys. I bet you could start that car with any key, not just a dodge one. Newer ones have a chip to help prevent this. But lucky for you no one steals 94 neons.
he should of paid for it, and also why didn't he replace the original starter with the new one, or use the other cars starter on yours? as it probably worked, not as well as the new one, but would of saved a few hundies?
