This does sound interesting, If I can work out a plan of action and a route to get there it may become a viable option. If driving is something I can plan out, I think being able to get specific supplies that may not be available to the area would be a good idea. Although I would imagine anything is possible there. Also wondering about costs or pricing there, would it be essentially a better idea to pruchase things locally there or bring certain items with? You being there would have a better idea of this than i would naturally.

This is exactly (hopefully) what I (and several friends) have been looking for. Sorry if I've missed this already brought up, but if you could give me some details about the %ownership buy in and how you would be working that?

I am not sure what is cheaper, to buy here or bring wind generator parts with you. they do sell that kind of stuff here. Merida has everything any big city in the US has.
for land purchase we are maxed out. we are renting 50 ac. to some people from the South Carolina burners group(part of the Burning Man thing) Although people are still welcome to come live, and work. We get our first well next week and planting is starting.

Hmmm, self powered Venues stadium. Permaculture Water park maybe? :D

Run on the methane generated by the very fish wastes of your own "Sea World" and surrounded by fertile fields of fish plop. :D

There are many dairies in Mexico; ever seen all the Mexican cheeses in the groceries these days? I am thinking that you should stick with what you know, what you grew up with before expanding to something new.

You will sound like a foreigner for a long time, maybe life and you probably will never look Mayan, but learning a little conversational Spanish and Mayan helps show your good will and friendship. You will become fluent if you don't isolate yourself.

The ones on the right also got topped and that roll in the center turned all crunchy and caramelized really well. I think adding in 20% butter and more sugar will only push it more in that direction. :D

What can I say, not a big fan of Pink Snow Balls. ;)

That place looks beautiful, my parents own some land in Central America; i would love to try out the self-sustained lifestyle, sadly I've been living in a city my whole life. Hell, i don't know what i would do to contribute in an area like that. Maybe in the future, props for the wind turbine design

    Wow!

I just found this forum! What a cool place!

I've been looking for a way to live sustainably outside of the US for a long time. I have a little RV with 600 watts of solar on it, a 10kw backup generator, and a small trailer full of tools and supplies. I've just been looking for a place to tend a garden and just exist without worrying about money so much. I've been living off the grid in the US for the past few years, doing odd jobs in exchange for places to park but have really been wanting to get out of the country and experience a different kind of lifestyle. I'll send you an email with more info!

Let me know if you have room.... All I would need is a passport and transit. It will take me a bit to get a passport (being transgendered and all makes everything more difficult.) I can think of a few ways to cultivate the land with wood and man/woman power.
