It's just someone's imagination working overtime. If I recall correctly, Stairway was based on a hymn.
I remember checking it out myself when I was young and heard exactly what was in the OP video. Got no explanation or opinion really, but it does say shit when played backwards. But really, do we need to play it backward whenever the lyrics played forwards are very rich in occult symbolism as well as the album artwork. Honestly if any band was/is in league with Satan it's got to be the rolling stones, I mean didn't Kieth Richards die in like '68 or something, or at least he sure looks like it.
You're thinking of Brian Jones, though he'd been kicked out of the Stones by the time he drowned...or was it murder ? Brian Jones murder thread: http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=376491&f=606 .
I was gonna post that bill hicks bit but you beat me to it. He definitely hit the nail on the head about playing records backwards tho
Yep that is how it works: You can make a pact with the Devil that allows you to live forever, but if you read the fine print of the immortality clause*, you'll see that it makes no guarantee about the aging process. So Keith will be around for centuries to come, but looking even worse than he does now. * "Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings"
I believe my symphonic (amazed to find a pic of the same player).. Anyways, We reversed the polarity on the motor. so it would play the record perfectly at 33.5rpm .. the armature had a stop, and we broke that because the needle wouldnt go over that far. but it did.. Dont the fancy phones have an App to play the recording backwards, YET?..
since there is no such thing as satan or yahweh, there could not have been any intention of causing a record to reveal hidden messages/commands when played in reverse.
I once played it backwards (all the way through) , loudly, in a church, with an audience of 200 rock fans all dressed in black. Nothing happened.
Others here have mentioned backward masking- like they intentionally put a hidden message into the song. I think this is reverse speech- something spiritual. The part played backwards would be his inner-most deep subconscious feelings, whether he intentionally did so or not. That part of the song played forwards correlates with what is played backwards while his accent remains the same. Reverse speech typically comes out in short sentences in everyday speaking but it can happen in songs too. The backwards lyrics aren't 100% clear, but some words on the forward lyrics are slurred or not pronounced clearly either. Assuming this is a coincidence, the odds of all those words being consecutive and still making sense would be next to impossible.
Hey, that's pretty neat, I didn't know it REALLY said anything. But, who GIVES a rats ass how or why? It's cool and ironic that that motivational speech ALMOST becomes praise of the devil.....It's improbably long and repetitive about it, but still..... Either chance, OR the chance that the band chose to do that, doesn't much change the song or anything else, for that matter. I, for one, never felt subliminally initiated into devil worshiping, not least because there is no devil. Until just now I had no idea where it was in the song, or even that it was true, and I know the song reasonably (casually) well.
