I smoke, always said I'd quit before age 21, and I'm not 21 yet. got less than a year to enjoy cigarettes if I stick to that goal.

First, cigarettes are cheaper then Tranquilizers. Even today, with the NAZI non-smokers backing a $12 per pack taxes in New York City. God save us from well-meaning veggies.

Second, if you don’t want to go to prison for pot busts for a third time and have quit smoking pot, then the only thing left for you to get a buzz on is tobacco and booze. Welcome to the U.S.A.

Of course we will very soon have a new prohibition on those, because of all of our well-meaning friends. For those of you who need a job, in this economy, I read in the news that some folks are making $120. per carton taking smokes from Tennessee to NYC. Please correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that way more money then POT! I don’t know why the U.S. economy is so very bad right now with stupid stuff like that going on. We should all be rich.

Historical notes. American Indians cherished tobacco, Colonial America grew rich on tobacco and hemp, we would of lost World War II if it weren’t for cigarettes, and today without cigarettes we are a nation of wimps.

BTW, I quit 3 years ago, because I got cancer, but not lung cancer. The Patch does, but you have to want to quit first. Now-a-days it cost about the same price as cigarettes.

i quit smoking cigarettes (after a 23yr 20-40 a day habit) because feeding an addiction that offers no reward, except a small insulin rush, and will eventually cause you physical harm is just fookin' stupid

When anyone asks me if it was worth quitting, i say a big "yes" the benefits are infinite and the negatives are zero

I've never told anyone to stop smoking tho', it's not my place to.. and if their children see them dying of some horrific smoking induced disease, it might do some good and prevent them from ever starting in the first place.. nothing like giving evolution a bit of a helping push

smoking.. started by a people who thought that the best way to hunt was driving entire herds off cliffs... brought into mass production by people who used slaves to tend their plantations... and manipulated by a media who became relient on it's advertising revenue

next time ya buy a pack, smoke a couple for me :mickey:

It's worth quitting but if there weren't any negative effects I would have already.

there aren't any negatives, unless you own shares in a tobacco company/organisation that profits from revenue from tobacco

Just the general physical withdrawals. + the unresistable urge to light one up when drinking beer, waiting for more then 10 minutes on public transportation or chilling with people that didn't quit. This urge ruins my mood eventually when I don't light one up. I can keep good control on the quantity I smoke happily (a pack a day sounds terrible to me), so I rather continue like this for awhile :D

They do taste real good when you battle the urge first for ten minutes. But what a drag when the train arrives 30 seconds after you caved in

I totally feel ya! The only tobacco I've ever touched are blunt wraps, because that'd be the option friends would have at the time for smoking weed and I wanted to get high. But I never plan to touch anything else tobacco-related ever. I have the same thoughts about hippies and alcohol, too. I've yet to meet one who avoids it like I do. haha I've smoked weed, taken LSD and taken shrooms and still never had a drop of alcohol.

Don't get me wrong, I probably will drink wine as a beverage as part of an Italian or French dinner, or some other occasion. But I never plan on getting drunk. It dumbs down your brain instead of expanding it, and it's considered unhealthy and a hard drug at those amounts. Not to mention my faith goes against getting drunk, but positively mentions "kanneh-bosm" (cannabis) and "manna" (magic mushrooms) for spiritual and medical uses.

Back to tobacco, the big problem I have with it is the second-hand smoke infringes on others' rights and is more harmful than first-hand. But I have a few friends who smoke cigs, and I sort of have to get used to it when we're hanging out. The weed helps, though. And they do want to quit.

But yeah. Sorry if any of yaz take offense, but the OP was honest and I see no problem with me being honest either. I'm not here to judge and act all high and mighty. I'm certainly no saint whatsoever, just contributing to the topic. Peace and love!

I like to get drunk and loud if I'm in a safe place and I'm not bothering anybody. Parties with friends and alcohol are cool with me, as long it doesn't become chronic or keep me from being productive once the party is over.
Second-hand smoke does infringe on the freedom of others, but it's definitely not the only pollution in the air. What about the smoking bans, infringing on the rights of smokers? I think the smoking bans are good for some places, but it should be up to the business owner.

I agree. Cigarettes are terrible for the environment. If you think about it, there are 24 seperate pieces in a cigarette pack. 20 cigs, the cellophane that you rip around the edge, then the two resulting cellophanes from the schism, and the actual pack. All I'm saying is I've never met a smoker who doesn't throw all of that shit out their car window. It makes me want to strangle them!!

    I don't smoke... tobbacco. :)

IMO tobbacco is completely nonconducive to the hippy lifestyle. It takes a lot of Industrial fertilizers and pesticides to get the tobbacco into your cigs. Plus littering plastic filters everywhere isn't cool. I want to a free man, not live shackled to some silly addiction.

But at same time I think all this anti-smoking nonsense is getting out of hand. It is now illegal (in my city) to smoke outside in public. Parks, beaches, bar patios. I also think cigarette packs with the mouth of sauron on them are kinda ridiculous.

In the immortal words of Denis Leary: You could make a pack of cigarettes called tumours with a fucking skull and crossbones and people would still be lined up around the block to buy them. Because they are a drug and people are addicted. Simple as that. You keep raising the prices, smokers are gonna start breaking into your houses.

I believe you're mistaken on the history of Tobacco. Smoking originated in the Americas, practiced by the natives.

I've heard of native tribes in brazil that would intentionally overdose off of uncured tobbacco. Either they would smoke huge footlong cigars our they make a potion of nicotine tar. This would induce hyperthermia, organ failure, paralysis and sometimes death.

Only someone who reached deaths door and fought back to life would be qualified to become shamans and learn how to heal others.

Ancient Aztecs and I believe Mayans as well, would preform hollucigenic enemas with large amounts of tobacco. A ritual usually reserved for high ranking members of the tribe.
