I'm slowly warming to ya, Prillar, ya know that?? Eric Arthur Blair (a.k.a. George Orwell) was prepared to stand up and fight for what he believed in ... and had the opportunity to do so. You ever read "Homage to Catalonia"? If not, I strongly suggest you do ... :mickey:
Beachball When i was 8. I read 1984. I had nightmares for years. This probably changed my life. Though even being 'gifted', i still understood only part of it having no great historical knowledge. The boot stamping on a human face forever.. horrifying. I am not and have never been your enemy. I'll look up that title.Have heard of it.. but never sought it out.. PS.. THAT SIG.. HEHE prill
8? That's a bit young for 1984. I read it at 12, but reckon maybe 14 would have been a better age. All of his earlier works lead up to it, though ... there are passeages, soemtimes whole chapters, in Burmese Days, Coming Up For Air, A Clergyman's Daughter, Keep The Aspidistra Flying and one or two others where you really can see glimpses, premonitions if you like, of ideas that will be developed and brought to perfection in 1984. (Glad you like the sig pic, hun. It won't stay for long, though. I like to change them about on a regular basis.)
Well your experience tells.. i know only 1984. Unlike say Iain Banks.. Im not well read in Orwell. * was too young.. but i grew up in age of nuke war..at 8 cold war was in full swing. We trained in school to hide under tables. Yes australia was as US was.. Living in fear. Luckily by 10 to 14 i was a ratbag scamp boy again.. no fear,, just scallywag.. lol Prill
