I just ordered e-cigs for myself and the hubby. Anyone ever try them? I didn't realize there was a whole world of them until I researched. Found a company that supposedly mimics the flavors I used to smoke before I quit. I only ever smoked socially, but I wouldn't mind a healthier alternative to nicotine. Hubby has always been more addicted. We're both pretty eager to try them and hopefully quit real cigarettes 4eva. I also wonder if there are significant negatives I don't about? P.S. I posted in Mind Fuck because it's all very StarWars bar scene.
they'll get you more addicted to cigs than you already are. the juice in them is usually more potent than cigs..
Interesting, how so? I know cigs are already quite addicting because they enhance anything you're already doing. They also increase focus and concentration. Do e-cigs have a similar affect? I could see them being more addictive because, for now, you can smoke them almost anywhere. That in itself could increase consumption.
I bought a Blu-cig. The problem I ran into was that it cost about 10 bucks for a pack of five cartridges and they lasted about two weeks. I'm about a two-pack-a-week man. So while it was cheaper, I simply couldn't get them shipped fast enough. Perhaps that's more of a failing on my part, but they also just weren't satisfying. It was a shame too. Because I really do want to quit, but these are simply not quitting devices. They aren't the patch, or nicotine gum. They're just a trendy urbane gimmick, imho. The funny thing was, that I had people telling me exactly what I'm saying in this post. But I was like: "Forget you! I'll never know until I try." Later I had wasted about a hundred+ bucks on it and never used it again. But like I say, you have to try them to know. -BlkBks
I have a friend who has one. I like taking a puff from the menthol pack every once in a while. I could never actually smoke a real cigarette though.
I've got a No. 7 ("Classic", the pen style) and like it just fine. I don't know first-hand but I've heard that there are some brands out there that don't work so well or cost a lot more to keep in operation. It looks like the No. 7 might be going the way of the dodo, though, so I might be back in the market when the parts I've got wear out. I greatly prefer the thing to smoking, and when I first got it I gave up tobacco completely for a few months. Then we went on a month-plus road trip which made cigarettes more convenient, and we left the e-cigs behind. We got them back in January and I've been tapering off of the tobacco ever since -- not on purpose, just as a matter of moment-by-moment choice.
I use E-Cig, i like it a lot. i can get 4 cartridges for only 6 bucks and it is equal to about 4 packs of smokes.
I don't smoke regular cigarettes, so this wouldn't be an avenue to quitting... just something fun to do while people-watching from my porch or at a bar. Hubby, on the other hand, has higher hopes that this will replace regular cigarettes. He doesn't smoke much anymore, but the habit is creeping back like it usually does. I don't care about the cost. If he likes them and it helps him quit, I'll keep ordering cartridges. But definitely will need to keep it in check because I wouldn't want it to become a nicotine free-for-all. Although many tout that they are a "healthy" alternative to cigarettes, I'm still a bit wary.
like a cigarrello, they give you more nicotine. which yes is toxic as welll.. but not as much and other smokes
I've read articles that not only do most formulas contain EVEN MORE chemicals than cigarettes; but that they are terribly regulated and virtually untested in most countries (including the US). The FDA says that e-cigarettes aren't any safer, but they have had trouble so far in legislating them properly. Do NOT use these for the fuck of it. one article evaluating them: points out an anti-freeze chemical and carcinogens lots more
That's more along the lines of what I was interested in reading. However, the first article was ripped apart by the BBC here: http://www.ecita.org.uk/blog/?p=132 It was flat-out inaccurate on a lot of points (but what do you expect from an article that sources wikipedia). The cig cartiridges I purchased do not contain Diethylene Glycol (anti freeze) and the dangers of Tetramethylpyrazine (tmp) are debatable, it's actually a "medicine" used by TCM practioners. Although, that alone certainly doesn't convince me of its safety. I would like to know where the tmp is derived from in the ecigs I purchased as it is comes from many sources, including plants. It naturally occurs in coffee, etc. Like I said, I'm wary... but one has to be wary of fear-mongering, as well. Some of the articles I read were a bit over the top. But thanks, it's a good start.
I chose the "light" nicotine (6mgs) for myself... don't think I would want much more.... Cigarillos used to make me nauseous, but at one point I used to smoke Nat Shermans. I think those are cigar/cigarette hybrids. Could never smoke them now, though. My first love will always be American Spirit rollies. I think I loved rolling them more than smoking them. That will never be replicated with an ecig.
No; that's an E-Cigarette Industry Trade Association blog. They are attacking the BBC4 for putting out similar information.
