Yeah, my black friends love it when I call them niggers. EDIT: I also enjoy being called a white piece of shit.
Insults: didn't see that one coming </sarcasm>...what are you trying to prove? I'm not pretentious at all, I just prefer to be respected and perceived as someone with intelligence. That alone does not make me a 'prick'. It's called self-respect.
I wasn't insulting you. If I were to insult you I would have said "You are a prick". You made yourself sound like one. I can smell the "holier than thou" stench coming through my computer monitor. EDIT: Cute, you edited your post. I find it funny how in your previously unedited post you said "My point proven" (which would be sinking to my level). Then you edited your post and asked me "what I'm trying to prove". I'm just trying to piss you off, not have a serious debate... It's just funny that you would do something like that after making such a point against it.
That's your opinion, and you're entitled to it. If I give that impression to you then that's not my problem, is it? You're a sensitive sort. Why take issue with the fact that I prefer not to demean my own character by using offensive words? I consider myself above certain behaviours, not other people. Do you understand now?
I edited to better reflect the point that I was trying to express after a little bit of reflection. Is there something wrong with that? My intention was to engage you on a level that would promote discourse, not stir rancor. I edited this one, too...I noticed that you've admitted to wanting to 'piss me off'. Why is that?
You're still doing it... And I know you're probably trying not to... Which is the sad thing. To us "normal folk" you just look like an asshole. Sorry to burst your bubble.
I'm pretty sure that I am not coming across as an asshole to anyone rational. No one else has responded to my post in the same manner as you. I simply came here to express my opinion about the subject, just like you. I didn't say that anyone else had to agree with me. I just expressed my viewpoint. You haven't burst my bubble. I am simply intensely curious about your antagonism! I've never had a total stranger react to me like this...it's fascinating!
^^^ Perfect example of how different people give different interpretation and different weight to effectiveness/ineffectiveness of words.
no dude and there is really no need to jump all over someone's post like that. If you disagree then have an intelligent debate but otherwise sometimes its just best to leave it alone. Its annoying to other posters. Your little argument took up like a page and a half.
Why would there be any appropriate use for a word that offends people regarding race? Just to be--what- cool? To show that one can get away with it? To jive-ass around? Pretty god-damned pompous for white people to stick up for using a word that emanated from southern white people that not only bought and sold humans, but also used them for machinery and sex while they sat on their fat asses and made money off them. What in the world do little black kids think the first time they get that flung at them? Fuck that shit.
Wow, the audacity to tell someone what they should and shouldn't be offended by is just mind stupefying.... I rarely use it, i don't like being called ****** myself, plus I have a name. With that said it doesn't offend me anymore being called it enough already kinda loses its sting and people should say whatever the fuck they want. Here's a quote forgot where from but I think it's appropriate for the topic - "Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor, and it can never be used to hurt you."
Great quote, Bonkai. It's not even about being offended to me, it's simply a matter of believing that there's no point to using a word that has no redeeming value. It can't ever be used in a constructive way to communicate an idea worth sharing. That's the purpose of words and language to me. Willful ignorance is what offends me. I'll share one with you that someone told me: Your race is not a liability. It's a responsibility. Respect yourself before anything else.
I do not use it, I would not allow it to be used in my home by myself or my children. I would also not appreciate any guest in my home using it. I do not consider it respectful to address anyone in that manner and I have never heard it used as supposed humour that I found entertaining.
Would you prefer if the word continued to carry the weight that it did in the past or if it were to lose that meaning altogether and thus lose its effectiveness as an insult? The fact of the matter is that the word is common in our dialect and it's used in many different ways. The person who says the word chooses to do so with a certain intent, and it can be interpreted many ways. All I'm saying is that instead of interpreting it as racist and offensive we could simply think of it as another word, and realize that there is no reason to be offended by it anymore than any other insult. If we can all agree that we are equal as human beings then why should we allow a word to hurt any of us? The word itself has no power, by taking offence to it, one gives it the power to offend.
My people "owned" human machinery in missouri. Now just what would anyone think of me if I used it-any time? Maybe some day it won't be so loaded. But we whites won't be making that decision.
