My biggest problem so far has been running into corners and table legs and stuff.... I'm just really klutzy, and no matter how hard I try, I can never seem to avoid shit like that. :(

Perhaps they only grow here in Florida, but...

    SANDSPURS!!!

These things hurt your feet, and they embed themselves into your skin, thereby fulfilling their biological purpose: to be transported and dropped somewhere else, so as to propagate the species. But they are spiky little bitches!

oh yes...yes indeed. Last night there was a blackout in the dorms & a group of guys thought it would be funny to spread spit, laundry detergent & uhm..."other things" on the floors while it was pitch black. :$ .....fools...

Maybe sandspurs is what I've been stepping on at the beach. They are a small ball of spiky things, about a quarter inch big. I've learned where they hang out and avoid stepping in those areas. They do hurt when you step on them, though. But that's part of going barefoot I guess. :)

ive stepped on glass, didnt get cut, was a small piece...furniture can be a problem, i did bang my pinky toe, and broke it, had to be taped, nothing else can be done.

as far as things on the ground, hell, i go barefoot to carnivals, county fairs, the movies, shopping...ive stepped in shit before, duck shit, we have too many ducks, and yeah, my dog, stepped in it once. its a risk we take by being barefooters.

public restrooms..well, its not like we havent stepped in pee before.

    Heh...actually that would be...ME. :p

Seriously, the only time I've ran across trouble being barefoot was from my own stupidity.

    Primarily:

Going barefoot around here (Washington state, which gets a lot of moisture), then putting shoes on later without washing my feet, which led to developing plantar warts.

The worst was not looking where I was walking and catching my middle toenail on the asphalt (dragging one's feet is NOT recommended, fellow barefooters!), pulling a big chunk of it free from the tip of my toe.

i thought plantar warts, and all warts in general were caused by a virus not because of dirty feet, Or moist feet which i think could cause atleaets feet

Yeah, those things are a pain in the fuckin' ass! When you try to pull them out of your feet soles, they stick in your fingers and stay THERE! :$

Add to that the stupid ass fire ants in Florida and you have the big two problems confronting barefooters.

during warmer months I'm barefoot almost everywhere, and have stepped into various things :) few times I encountered glass pieces under my feet, but there was no damage, my soles are probably hard enough.

Tree stubs in the middle of the trail, and anything like chairs, vacuum cleaners and other stuff left out in the middle of the floor -especially at night-. (Okay, it's my own stupid fault, I live alone so I have no one to blame for leaving stuff out :p) A broken toe's definitely nastier than a small splinter and I've never had anything worse than a minor splinter from glass yet... so glass I really don't care about... same with thorns and stuff and even sand spurrs, they're a bit of a pain but sit down with tweezers for a minute and once it's outa there, it's gone... not so with a broken bone or even a bad bruise.

Ice & snow... a little bit can be fun, when you don't have to be out in it too long, and leaving prints in the snow is really cool (especially imagining the people's faces when they discover them :)), however there comes a point when it gets too cold... As a beginning barefooter I wore shoes a few times at people's request (once for work, once at a funeral) but now cold weather's the only thing that still forces me into shoes maybe a handful times a year.

All the other things named I either don't really mind or don't think they're barefoot hazards... had two warts -one on my foot before I went barefoot and one on my hand- and ants are a pain, but think about it... Last few times I stood near an ant hill, I noticed in time to wipe them off my feet before they made it up my legs and into my pants... I remember one time years ago, before I started to go barefoot, I wasn't so lucky... wearing socks, boots and long pants, by the time I noticed them they were up my jeans, took them off and shook them out but an hour later I was still picking the occasional stray ant out... far less chance they'd get that far barefoot!

I would put poop before glass cuz I usually have good calus's during the warm months and most glass on the ground is already dull and not much of a problem.

100+ degree weather...too hot to wear shoes, way to hot to walk barefoot on cement, asphalt or pretty much any surface exposed to sunlight.

That's the only one that bothers me. Hot pavement.

Stuff like glass, gravel, none of that is a problem for me. The soles of my feet can withstand almost anything except really hot pavement.
