SXSW promoters are having 11 homeless people act as WiFi HotSpots.. Basically strapping routers to their body and walk around the festival area..

Soo weird. I don't know how I feel about this. Isn't there a better way to help them out?

On the Daily Show last night Jon Stewart mentioned they were only paid $20 dollars to do this. They aren't paid hourly and I'm assuming they're doing it for the duration of the festival and not just one day, although I could be wrong, which would make the one-time $20 payment vastly under minimum wage.

i am sympathetic to the plight of the homeless..i give them cash and drugs if i can....but i do not like talking to them or even being near them...they almost always smell and look awful...i imagine body lice jumping from the homeless onto me as i walk by...and how long before the mexicans start pretending to be homeless to get the cushy homeless gigs>..

    Take the 20 bucks
Take the money the people paid to use the wifi
Take the router and sell it later.

People are made homeless bums by circumstances in an unjust society of exploitation. Their addictions and conditions are nothing more than the symptoms of the greed of the ruling elite class. A class that will stoop to any low in order to strip away all that one man has for their own selfish temporary pleasures.

Although some what true we also have to look at the accountability of some of them.... Some people can survive some cant.. Some are held back and some get distracted and never move forward unfortunately..
Some because they don't believe in themselves enough to try and some because know one will believe in them. Without faith there is no home.
Homelessness should be combated w/ employment not donations give directly to them not to someone else speaking for them..

Dont miss understand me, it is truely tragic what society subjects people to. But, its truely degrading to depend on a soup kitchen for food also, and the exploitation of the homeless to fund progects like soup kitchens is disgraceful.. The only objection i have is that its paid as a "donation" rather than employment. We cant fix it for them we must give them the tools to fix it themselves and believe in them. The homeless should be given their voice back.... Maybe this is a start...
