Seriously whose going to invade us when 90% of the worlds capital comes from here? Taking over the U.S. at this point would be economic suicide for the planet. So i ask.. WTF purpose does are military serve now? It's the only reason we still use oil and it's the only reason more advanced technology is never available to the public. It’s like a monster that just sits there and kills, steals and occupies the planets resources to keep itself alive.

    What be your opinions?

The US military is the school yard bully with which those with deep pockets win the lunch money of those less fortunate and line their pockets with dollars. I no longer care about who the company is fighting for, who they're fighting, or who they're fighting with. It is irrelevant.

Oil is the excuse with which they try to drive the American public. But I have faith that people will catch on, and break our dependance on oil.

Ideally in the future there will be no military, at least no national militaries. One military defending a completely arbitrary and changing geographical boundary from the invasion of a military of another arbitrary and changing geographical boundary will be viewed as totally absurd.

I think its a bit unfair to ask this question in terms of the U.S. military.

Does any country need a military?

In an ideal world, no. In the world we live in, yes.

Corruption and greed has driven man to wage war for thousands of years and will probably continue for thousands of years to come, provided we don't drive our species to extinction first.

I do think the U.S. military should be held in reserve for defense only. There is no reason why our military should ever go on the offensive, but we seem to do that quite often these days.

Of course we need a military presence. War is the only thing man has achieved in terms of accomplishment. From the beginning of times we've only been able to wage war as a success.
Floods and droughts ruined our agriculture but still we knew where to stick the knife and how to stick it to another clan of people for their food and services.
When all goes to shit, as it will, because it always has, and it always will, we need a presence of force.
Many believe science is mans greatest accomplishment. Yes, it manufactured the A Bomb, the single greatest accomplishment of mankind, concreting WW2 as mans Golden Era, for we learned at this stage how to destroy fellow man in mass numbers.

are you being ironic, irminsul, or do you really believe the A bomb is the single greatest accomplishment of mankind? The last line made me think you're being facetious as well.."WW2 as mans Golden Era, for we learned at this stage how to destroy fellow man in mass numbers."

I certainly would not define that as a Golden Era.

Most societies see their biggest advancements during times of peace, not times of war.

Yeah, but at this point it'd really only be necessary for the US to have an air force, Navy, and small marine squadron within the navy.

Nobodys going to invade the US because they have MIRV's, not because it's affluent. Wealth is a pretty good reason to plunder. Ask the Aztecs.

I doubt there would be such a thing as a "free speech forum", if we didn't have a military.

I'd say we definitely need a military. And remember, the military is more than just overseas...there are a lot of natural disasters and riots, etc. that happen in this country that the military is needed for

National defense is necessary for these.

It may sound like a subtle difference, but when you consider the differences between national defense and military... but in modern terms American terms, military is a force for occupation, and national defense is a force for preventing invastions and assisting with things like national disasters and such.

I was in the Army. 91W, Paramedic for a year.

cant we all just get along, and advance the human race and technology without worrying about defending ourselves from each other?

No we can't... Cause those chinese sons of bitches... J/k

But the world will never be about peace... It is not possible to reach it. For the same reason we need a security system in our houses or cars. People aren't perfect. With free will, we can do whatever we feel like. And pricks like Bin laden etc. Will cause havoc for no reason. Military is for protection. And since we owe china a lot of money, we need to keep our military just in case we decide not to pay them.

lol idk man, i think world peace is a possibility, and do we really owe the debt to china or is that just an excuse... I think we owe the money to the banks who lent it to us... theres is a centralized bank run by the Rothchilds in every country but three now...

    Cuba
    North Korea
Iran << I think is next

The Attacks of September 11th were an inside job to also invade Afghanistan and Iraq to then establish a Central Bank in those countries.

I think times are changing and the dollar is going to become worthless, notice all the gold hoarding? If we would all stop being controlled by money...

I wouldn't say no to world peace, but at the same time... I don't want to live a boring ass life of peace with no controversy or some kind of drama. Whether it is war or not.

I do not know if it was an inside job involving the US. The truth lies between the people involved we can only guess.

And times are definitely changing and sadly money = power. Without it, most would die. People are too lazy now a day to be able to live without it. Or they just don't have any knowledge other than to get money to survive. No nature survival skills or anything.
