Ok, Driving through my neighborhood i get into the left lane and wait to make a turn into a busy main street. I am the first car in line to make the left when a douche bag big rig makes a left turn from the main road into the street that Im on. his trailer however get dangerously close to the front of my car so i proceed to slowly reverse and unknowingly (Stupidly) bump into a white van behind me. Mr Big guy (Van driver) gets out of his white van and begins to bitch me out. We then looks at his bumper, (that to me appeared to be fine) but he says i cause a grove like dent on it. However, this was a perfectly U shaped curve in the bumper (perfectly in the middle) that looks to be made so that the license plate can be placed on it without protruding from bumper. I did not mention this i just said "are you sure it isn't made like that" (No answer) and then told him that the rig was going to crush my shitty car if i didn't back up. he then said "but I honked" He then dosnt say anything and goes back into his van.Baffled by this intense ass experience I go into my car, wait for the light, and make my left turn. The van driver goes down the same street as me but makes a right into a strip mall some blocks latter. My questions: Did i do anything wrong, should i be worried, and can he report me to the cops and suspend my license or something along the line of that? (He did have view of my license plate during all this). Thanks.
Chances are nothing will come of it. Sounds like the guy just wanted to prove his "superiority" (lack there of really) and pitch a bitch. Now legally, yes he has your license number and he could try to say it was some kind of "hit and run" but with that small an amount of damage, if it's damage at all, it wouldn't be worth it to him to do anything about it. Did you guys exchange insurance information? (I doubt highly he would have wanted to if you had asked) Lesson number one... NEVER back up without knowing what is behind you. Just my 2 cents
Always check behind you before popping into reverse. I know you wouldn't want your car to be hit, but it's better to have that happen than for you to cause an accident, you know?
Oh he can report you, but nothing serious should happen Id just wait it off if I were you, but if you feel to much guilt and wanna clean your conscience then just turn yourself in... Good luck to ya
yeah, what were you driving and what was he driving? is your car distinct enough for him to recognize driving around? is his car shitty?
Truck drivers can be serious assholes. One time I had one guy end up driving down the wrong side of the street. He was too large to make a turn, but he seemed to have the same attitude as your guy. He honked as he proceed to almost run my small Honda over. And he acted liked I was the one at fault for driving the right way down the street. I had to throw in reverse to avoid being run over like a monster truck. To an extent I sympathize, your vehicle is large but that does mean you own the road. Don't worry about it. They have shitty jobs, and no education, of course they are pissy.
