I've spent a few years looking for a commune now and am still as clueless as when I started. I don't know if I'm overlooking or if what I'm looking for doesn't exist. It would mean a lot to me if some experienced communers could look over this and give me some advice.

I'm looking for a place that doesn't have a religious requirement. Jesus and I are cool.

I want to put in a good days work and be given reasonable accomadations for it. Reasonable ain't much for me.

I'd like there to be at least 10 people living there.

I have a labrador retriever that is as much a part of my life as the air around me. He's a good boy. If I have to work harder to cover him, it's cool.

I don't really care where it is. I'm hanging on to society by a thread man. It's just all so silly, I don't know how much longer I can keep dancing with them. Their existance of money and commercialism and "gotta get mine" attitude doesn't work for me. It's just not me, I'm a nice guy who likes to work for other people.

One commune (this one is technically an eco-village) that I've looked into a lot is Heartsong eco-village. It's in the Ozark mountains in Arkansas. Here's the site:
    heartsongecovillage.weebly.com
I've talked a lot with them-- there are no religious requirements there but they are pretty spiritual and obviously into nature. They believe all life is beautiful and sacred, but they eat meat there (although you can be vegetarian)
They have garden work, taking care of the animals, and building stuff (for example, they want to build an outdoor stove soon) and general cleanup.
They have well water, a shower with hot water, a house phone, and maybe an internet connection.
Some people can stay inside but there's not much room/enough beds, so more likely than not you'd sleep in your tent.
Right now there are only a few people there, but I thought I'd share anyway.
Good luck on your journey :)

Send us an email out here at Serenity Oaks in Missouri.
We're cool with any religion or non-religion you're into. We have five wonderful dogs, we enjoy a good hard day's work. We have lots of fun social time, and a large beautiful property if you feel more like taking a quite stroll through some unexplored nook. We're way out in the woods, so it's very peaceful and quiet, and nobody bothers us.
We're building some nice earthen homes and establishing our little self-sufficient farm. You're welcome to come for a stay and check us out.
There is lots of information on our ic.org entry or serenityoaksecovillage.org
Good luck with your search, friend!

I'd like to see more of Serenity Oaks, like pictures and what not. I'm going to forgo the commune life for now. I think my next step is going to be moving to India and becoming a Sadhu. Been trying to find information on it for a minute. You don't just walk into the airport and say "Hindu'ville please". There are differant ashrams and temples to be researched and who's to say they're cool with me walking up and knocking on the door. Seems like it would be cool, but who knows, I don't know. Remembered this forum and figured I'd ask here.
