The obvious answer is no, no it wasn't.. Have you seen pictures of what 'dank weed' use to look like? It was extremely leafy, almost looks nothing like the nugs we're use to today. Pretty sure everyone has said it already, but weed is much more potent and we have a larger variety today then we did in the 60's. If you really think about it, look at growers and cannabis conventions today. With the technology we have we're able to grow some pretty ridiculous, powerful, and even beautiful strains. In the 60's I'm sure weed was still potent, there's no doubt there, but you can't deny that weed is certainly better then it has been years.
Yes, you can. But it has already been gone over earlier in this thread so I won't do this...:beatdeadhorse5: ZW :sombrero:
meh, I remember the commercial grass in PA was getting better and better as time went on, i was only in TX for half a year, i only bought "kern" a handfull of times... it all tasted shitty but it was definately cost effective compared to the good stuff
Scientifically speaking, weed being "more fun back then", could just be a personal feeling, and a function of the passage of time and the aging process, since when we were younger we had more fun, focusing on social fun instead of just "potency" studies. In a very real sense, when I had little choice about "which variety of weed I was smoking", I purposely (though perhaps subconsciously) made the bud smoking experience more fun, since any state of mind that was an improvement on "normalcy" was a plus, and we made the best of it. Instead of just a "test group" riding around in a car trying to assess the potency of a strain, we were "sit-down-comedians", cracking joke after joke, making fun out of words, inventing and creating scenarios in our minds, and playing awesome sounds on everyday objects like buckets, aluminum ladders, guitars, harmonicas, stand-up basses, and keyboards. It seems as if we're spoiled these days, in some ways, and as a result, are not as happy. We've learned to "expect" too much out of the smoking process, and have focused on merely "epitomizing the effect", rather than epitomizing our real-life experiences. Our focus ought to be on life, not smoke. We ought to be thinking up ways to enhance our lives, not just enhance the high. We're not here serving a plant, a chemical, but rather, the chemical or the plant ought to be serving us. We are the superior being. Just look at all that we have accomplished. Okay, forget that line of reasoning,,haha. Back in the day, we would think about what we were doing, like, for instance, "going to a movie", or "going to walk around on Sunset Blvd.". Just casual stuff, the settings for doing something that getting high could enhance a bit. We even surfed, in wintertime, though the cold water pretty much brought us down quickly. Eating and drinking, we realized, would also bring us down a bit, so the plan was always to smoke, eat, then smoke again,,then eat again,,,,go home,,masturbate, and sleep. I've lost my train of thought here,,
I think all of this is clearly subjective to where you were demographically in 1969 through 1982. In 1969 people sold 4 finger lids, remember? It was leaf, stems and seeds but you got a 4 large "finger" sack. Even then there was some, not huge amounts but some Colombian Gold, Panama Red, Maui Wowie, Thai sticks both dipped in opium and not dipped, Humbolt County all in my demographic area. In my location by 1973 there where no leafy, stem and seed ridden smokablez period, it was all the above mentioned nuggets and dip sticks and dam it was good to be in the center of that universe. From 1969 through 1982 I lived in So cal, 70 miles from San Pedro and the Port of Los Angeles and 110 miles north of the Mexican boarder. That area until Reagan decided to unleash his "war on drugs" I experienced the best quality I've ever encountered in my life time. None was really indigenous to where I was though that's for sure, it was from elsewhere. I have lived in Oregon now for quite a few years and have a card completely for medical purposes and legal, in fact it's more then likely adding several years of quality to my life but I'll go on about that another time. Oregon's reputation is everything you hear it is too believe me, my caretaker is a very good farmer. There are farmers all over this state and have been for 160 years. They know how to grow things very well here no matter what it is. Now just IMO, I don't speak for anyone else, The Maui and the buddah from Thailand that was dipped, nothing I've ever been in a breaths distance of could compare. Today's is really quality, especially the indoor but not comparable to anything from the Hawaiian islands in the years I'm describing. Take a vacation to the islands and hook up with some people, you'll see. Now that's not to say if you lived Pueblo Colorado during the same time period or Iowa or anyplace for that matter far from the coast, major ports of call or bordering Mexico I'm thinking their would be the large quantities and types from other areas of the planet in those places that I experienced. But that's simply due to my location. I used to have cousins come out from Virgina and Golden, CO every summer and just blow their minds with what was just around. Maybe someone from the mid west can chime in here and tell us what the particulars were where they hailed in that time period?
I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess you didn't know the threads name is "Ask the Old Hippies" did ya
Went to my first concert spring of 1970, so I been at it a while now. Genitics are WAY WAY better. If your growing your own stash, weed is WAY better. If your stuck buying the bricked schwag, it's the same ole same ole.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6xscuS9H8U"]Fraternity Of Man - Don't Bogart Me~Easy Rider~ â€* Dennis Hopper - YouTube The weed these days is 1000 times better- but there is something to be said of the innocence of the times yrs ago We really didn't care, or worry about the best- we just worried that we wouldn't be without- and wouldnt get busted
I'll be there was some kickass weed in the 1900-1930's...look at the teeny-weeny joints those 'vipers' would roll...small enough to tuck in your tie...they would hiss back some "gage" down at the club and play some bluesy jazz, yeah :beatnik: " ...as Louis Armstrong (1901-1971) told his biographers, much later, "We always looked at pot as a sort of medicine, a cheap drunk and with much better thoughts than one that's full of liquor." "We did call ourselves Vipers," he admitted, "which could have been anybody from all walks of life that smoked and respected gage. That was our cute little name for marijuana..." http://www.cannabisculture.com/v2/articles/3434.html
Hey, thanks for this. I'm seeing Satchmo in a whole new light now. Gage,,haha,,that's my grandson's name.
Cool. I believe Pops may be the most influential stoner of the modern era. Few realize just how revolutionary his approach to music was and have little idea how broad his influence...it's still being felt today. He is among Americas greatest innovators. And yet some people still believe pot is a-motivational, destroys your potential and what-not ...lol
I'd like to take a bunch of these "people" and "hotbox" them. I'd put a bunch of musical instruments in with 'em, smoke up the place, leave 'em there for a while, and see what comes out. Eh,,they'd put me away for makin' 'em "go insane",,lol.
I think I'll throw some weed in the bubbler, surf the net, listen to Hendrix on YouTube, look at pictures of naked women, or ones that look really good in clothes, beat my meat, and get some sleep. Sound like a plan?
