Well better than judging them by their skin tone, wealth or their dialect - hmm can music reveal sections of ones character? interesting, never thought about that before
Getting mad? Where did you get that idea from? By the sounds of it, it's you who's getting mad... all I did was point out an example of why it can be foolish to judge someone purely based on the music they listen to. Oh yes, I listen to music I think is shitty, I get no end of pleasure from listening to music I find absolutely horrible! lol Just because you personally find a genre of music "shitty", doesn't make it shitty. It just means that you think it is. That is not true. I do not judge anyone based on how they look. And I'm sure I can't be the only person in the whole world who is like that. Sure, the majority of people do judge people based on their looks, but that doesn't mean that everyone does. Hang on, if this thread was made as a "joke" then why did you take what I said as a "personal attack"? I didn't attack anyone in particular, just the basic idea. If the thread was made as a joke, you shouldn't have taken my post personally. And if it wasn't made as a joke, then why suggest it was? lol
No, I told you I liked the words in the song, and that I don't actually listen to it. That song is also my signature. Checkmate
I am not sure how you could pigeon hole someone based upon music alone unless they only listen to one particular type of music. Most people I know listen to such a variety of music that it would be really difficult to state an opinion based upon that alone.
I think even then, it may not be a wise decision. Even if there are general rules of thumb, there are almost always, exceptions to every rule. Something that pigeonholing and stereotyping doesn't take into consideration. Which is why I myself never do that. Refusing to be friends with someone just because you don't share their musical tastes is a bit pathetic if you ask me. I'd say around 85%-90% of the music I listen to is from the same or similar genres of music. Although I do listen to and like, a wide variety of music. I can also see things like talent sometimes even in music that I don't particularly personally enjoy myself. If it's clear to me that some talent has gone into making music, then it has merit, and I can appreciate it on a purely aesthetic level, even if I don't particularly enjoy the music itself. The problem is, that most people can only find merit in music that they themselves enjoy, and dismiss all other forms of music as "crap". I find such an attitude to be far worse than simply enjoying types of music that I don't particularly enjoy.
I love Hard Acid Penis. What do ya think of that? haha. I'd have to hear what song/artist you are into. I can't say I like it all. Post a video and I will give you my judgment. Then maybe if your taste is up to par, we can become friends?
I listen to rap, electronic, a little rock, a little reggae and some country. Give it to me straight prissbaby, I can take it.
I think we may be talking at cross purposes. I personally could not weed people out or form an opinion of them based upon musical taste. That is my point.
I judge people based on music too, to a certain extent. I think you can tell a lot about a person by their taste in music. I even think musical taste can be an indication of intelligience and level of originality. Its not like I would decide not to be someone's friend if I didn't like their taste in music....for the most part. I have to draw the line when someone likes shitty modern rock bands like, for example...Nickleback. Or Creed. Because I don't want to be stuck in a car driving around with my friend while they're listening to Nickleback. And if they think that is good music, they're probably stupid anyways. I say that with half my tongue in cheek, half out I kinda think its cool that seized doesn't like music, simply because it is so incredibly unique. Unique enough to make every person in this thread freak out over the fact that she doesn't like music lol.
I love mostly Rock & Roll from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and limited selection of mostly hit songs from every other category from Jazz to hip hop to classical; my favorite Carl Orff's 1937 composition Carmina Burana :2thumbsup: Hotwater
I did get the impression that you said it could be possible to pigeonhole someone if they only liked one type of music... if I got the wrong end of the stick, then I apologise. I'm like you though, in that I couldn't form a firm basis for judgement of a person purely based on their musical taste alone. I mean, there's lots of people who listen to the (predominant) kind of music I listen to who probably aren't very nice people, and who I definitely wouldn't want to be friends with. Just because I share musical tastes with someone, doesn't necessarily mean I'll have anything else in common with them. Just as I could find myself having plenty in common with someone who doesn't share my musical tastes.
I met a girl once that said she only, ONLY listens to modern country. I had no interest talking to her after that. I was playing my iPod on shuffle for everyone at work...::she asked me to turn it off if I wasn't gonna play country I have fiends that listen to crappy music, but I don't think I could be in a serious relationship with someone with bad taste in music. I've tried.....road trips were horrible.
I negatively judge people who listen to shit like: Lil Wayne Rihanna Nicki Minaj Lady Gaga Any modern country shit Any commercial pop shit Coldplay U2
