Hi. I am back reading about dreads cuz i HAD mine for 8 long yrs and i very stupidly cut them off for a guy i liked who didn't like them. Then soon
after he dumped me! Mine were long past my shoulders. I cut them in half
and then my girlfriend combed the rest out using oil, conditioner, etc. It took 9 hours! Now i'm sick. I can't believe i did that! My hair is down to my
chin level and i want to do dreads again. My hair is thinner cuz i lost a lot of hair when she combed it all out. I have straight very fine hair. Since my
hair is very thin and fine i didn't think the natural way would work for me., so the other day i made some dreads by backcombing. I only have like 13 of them and it looks pitiful!!! I am keeping some rubber bands on them at the root, end and middle. Is there hope for me? Will my hair thicken as it
grows out and dreads by the roots? When i first had dreads my hair looked very thick when it all grew out so i am hoping it will fill in. Will it? I am older like mid 40's, but i still LOVE dreads and i don't care what other people say. I'm one of those real kool moms!!!

i really don't know a whole lot about dreads but i think that's cool as hell that you have them..only do things for you, i wouldn't worry about what a man wants...he should like you for you, dreads included! Definitely give it another go.

Now that you're in the dread forum, check the stickies, they should help you.

And natural locks would work fine for you, but you could always keep it brushed a while while more grows in, but your hairs cannot grow in thickness once they're passed the hair follicle.

I brushed my dreads out like 4 months ago and my hair is still pretty thin and dry. Maybe you could wait a few more months until your hair gets healthier, take care of it, and then go with neglect :D

Keep backcombing until you're happy again :) Think of it as a fresh start, and a different style with your dreads.

And screw that guy, at least you know to never listen to dudes like that again. Nobody should try to change you, you are who you are. Don't let anyone try to convince you otherwise.

hey op, if the guy still liked you would you be ok with being dread-less ?

... just a thought before you beat yourself up getting your hair back to the way it was before cutting
