The problem is that some kids use it as an effective means to destress and release built up anxiety. There are reports that some kids base real life attacks on people due to video game violence. But also I like to get an older version of Red Faction and destroy buildings with just a hammer piece by piece, leveling it until there is not much over 1ft (more or less..) left, effectively moving my anxiety from my body, to this video game helping a lot. I've played quite the mass of violent video games, from original Call of Duties, Medal of Honor, GTA old and new versions, Duke Nukem, and all sorts of the "Main Voilent Titles" and been a very calm, and non-threatening individual, even after uncounted amounts of killing sprees and multitudes of innocent AI characters being wiped out for no apparent reason, other than I had a rocket launcher and a machine gun. IF you notice a child progressively becoming more violent with vide games/cartoons/music then maybe ween him/her off and see if it was that. Since I listen to heavy metal/hard rock about sex/drugs/rock/murder and such though I don't do much of the sex/murder because I try to avoid STD's and life sentences haha.
But I've also met a lot of people from millionaires to homeless squatters, and they all seem pretty fine with no violent attributes stemming from violent video games. But if any vioence occurred from them, it was perceived to be their actual lifestyle and things physically happening around them, or even the media publicizing real life violence and giving them encouragement with such gruesome accounts of actual events. Though this is not the blame game, comics, and books have also had their fair share of being blamed for violence, will the B.C. Romans blame legends and myths? Who knows, but it to me has to deal with everything else in a persons life not just what small portion they can control. If this was true we'd have to ban books for explicit tales of murder, envy, erotic and kinky acts of seduction, violence and anything else that MUST be imagined in a persons mind to be understood. Now that is a problem, but that's what the warnings are for, I wouldn't say for a parent to just go off those warnings alone, but to go off their child in a professional manner, and not just give them what they want. So I'd blame genetics in humans for violence and video games for giving them ideas, but the person would have to want to do it subconsciously before a story, video game, book, tv show, movie, or news media outlet pushes little jimmy to the edge.

That's just my CRAZY opinion, nothing like medical, parental or legal advice, but I could be wrong, you could be wrong, hell we all could be wrong and never see the 'right' answer, but these are the means in which we live, so we have to choose what's more in the right, than in the wrong. So hopefully my thoughts here give someone thoughts for a reply, whether insisting I'm onto something, or I'm completely wrong, since either way is a good way to brainstorm thoughts for the future.

Let's take ,for example,a small school run by hippie types in a beautifull setting where love, sharing and peace is taught ,the parents are FULLY involved and where the parents do not allow their children violent games.(I know of such a school). Then let's take a typical public school where the kids are an amalgum of society as most public schools are, where a good %age of them play these games and the curriculum is of the standard american example. Which school would you want your kids to attend and which kids would you rather babysit? Children enter this world a blank slate and depending on what they see, hear, learn, experience will determine how they act. So--what's next?

Good vs Evil has been around since the beginning.

Think about it our caveman relatives taught their kids Good vs Evil. Whether it was tribal or just for the sake of eating.

Then Medieval Times fathers would train their boys how to use swords from a young age.

Fair Tales always have the good and bad

The bible God vs The Devil

    It's just packaged differently today.

Violence and killing is a part of life just like everything else. It's been entertainment/sport for thousands of years... I think violence in video games is okay, I actually enjoy it a lot. I grew up watching horror movies and playing violent games and turned out fine. I don't even enjoy watching boxing/MMA because REAL LIFE violence isn't my thing. Theres a difference, and any rational human can make that distinction. If you think kids are going to get bad ideas from games or movies then you should really be focusing your attention on the parents.

A person here who ENJOY'S violence in fiction? Now that's... interesting.....o_O;; (but, yeah, it isn't like its... real.....)

Oh well...I'll like what I like, and you'll like what you like^^

I basicly started this thread cuz I was curious, anyways...since this is one group that may share more closely to how I feel in the world, I figure i'd ask about one of my deepest confusions.....

  7. Yeah it's a pretty good topic though. :) Violence affects me in many ways but I watch so many horor movies and love video games as well. Guess it depends on how voilent the movie is, there's some things I just can't stomach. The most violent anime I saw was Elfen Lied, that was pretty gory.
