Why think about it at all? Your breathing is partially autonomic, though it can be controlled by your CNS (which we call "you", apparently). Which is why we breathe when we sleep. I think mindfulness is the feeling that you're aware of something. Doesn't matter what that something is. So although you're right and I can't do anything about work, I can imagine that I'm putting a curse on my workmates or healing them with my magical buddhist powers during meditation and that would be as mindful as focusing on breathing.
sorry.. it wasn't advice its what I'm goin threw.. also showin things could be worse for her. Sorry didn't mean for what I said to be taken the wrong way.
I 100% agree with this statement. you can be mindful about anything, breathing is just an easy one to start with.
I agree with eggsprog. They are not just magical pills that cure everyone of everything. It's really not for everyone. At least not for me at this point in my life. Even if it was just a weed trip, I don't think that means the intensity has to be any less. Sure weed isn't LSD, but a trip is a trip. I don't think I would have almost jumped out of my window at the command of a blurry cartoon character if I was just "really high". If that were the case I never would have even bothered seeking help.
I've tried meditation and it just frusterates me unless I get really stoned and listen to some good music to get in the right mindset.
As for therapy, Its never done me a bit of good either. I mean what is the point in sugar coating things so they don't get 'worried' and recommend I be transferred to a mental health facility at once. Not to mention you have to pay the therapist to sit there and say what you already said in a different way, not disagree but at the same time they never do have anything to say about your actual concerns and respond more to when you act like your making progress of some sort even if your not. I mean don't get me wrong it probably helps people that don't have very severe issues or who are managing them very well......but I don't think they get some people are past that point.
I just get someone to talk to. It helps me feel less alienated. Also, i feel it should be added that this is a school counselor, so while tuition is very high itself, it is included as a free service to students. I must say though, keeping my anxieties and horrific thoughts in my head is very scary and alienates the hell out of me. It makes me feel human and sane that I could sit down and tell them to someone without having them judge me. Even if I leave just as anxious as before, I'll know that there is someone out there who knows what I've been going through, and listened.
Alright well I can see how that would be helpful, just isn't for me but everyone's different so different things help.
