I'm really interested in meditating, but my mind is usually feels very active. It seems like it is harder than it probably should be, though I do have some success with it. Do any of you have tips for calming yourself (physically or mentally) for meditation?

Thanks Fritz! Those two vids are great! I bought binaural some binaural beats and they work good. I bought Alpha and Epsilon tracks that are an hour long each and they work. Other than binaural beats/isochronic tones, do u or anyone else have tips for getting into the general mindstate for meditating to counter an overactive mind? I'm reading a book about past lives and will soon be getting to the section that works with meditating to contact spirit guides and past life memories.
My two cents on it are that there is really no such thing and to say a mind is "overactive" is misleading when in fact the mind in question is merely unfocused. Seriously, look into some of the herbal remedies for ADD if this is the case. OR look for a primer 10-20 minute Binaural track designed to help tune your mind / improve your ability to focus on a specific thing, even when that thing is the nothingness of all,,, Not saying you suffer from ADD but merely a similar chemical treatment will help to focus your thoughts more, even if only on the resonant tones of monks as they chant "Om"
Meditation is an excellent and powerful adjunct to healthy stress-free living and well-being, but not all meditation techniques have been shown and verified in having the same breadth and depth of physiological, biochemical, psychological and clinical benefits. Transcendental meditation (TM) is unique in having had almost 400 peer reviewed research studies published in top scientific journals on its health benefits performed at dozens of leading research institutions around the world over the last 40 years. Personally, I had tried many different types of meditation before I learned TM (many years ago), so I speak from my own deeply satisfied experience - no other technique or approach came close for me.
So take the solid gold guarantee path or blaze a trail and find what fits for you. For any form or style, you will find roughly equal numbers of supporters and nay-sayers for anything, but binaurals have in fact stood the test of thousands of years and countless religions already as they ARE the underlying tones and tunes chanted throughout the world to bring one closer to their state of Gnosis with whoever they call the One. :cheers2:

Ok,,, try the Shankar stuff, but play the Gregorian Templar chant behind it,,, almost makes you feel like you're in the Crusades again eh'? Kinda creepy~cool if you get hung up on the history, but then what in this world doesn't right? But they do interweave fairly well I think.
