Okay, this isn't poetry so much as its just a rant on my part, but sometimes it just feels good to put thoughts down like this.
    ----------

I try to breath in clean air only to find myself, like so many others, suffocating on what uninvited pollutants have entered the atmosphere today. I wonder how many more asthmatic fits it'll take before I drop down dead. Hmmm, somehow I welcome that idea, though I know its not what I really want. We, as one destructive force, have rendered our mother filthy and cluttered, but our pharmeceuticals won't cure her of this virus that is us. I almost feel like death would be the easy way out, because, in death, we have no responsibility for our earthly actions.
Ugh, its so frustrating; like, when you feel like you are drowning in pool infested with ignorance and greed and its so thick that you can't even see straight. No, its so thick that you can't swim your way back up to the top.
You drown, but you don't die. No, no, there are fates far worse than death, like knowing that your species has taken every thing it possibly could and then some and theres no way to pay it back. Like, your house burns down, but you don't have insurance... only this house is our planet and there is no rebuilding her...

Well said. It feels as if im reading some of my own thoughts. Let me add a few of those thoughts-

Everywhere I look I see a disease infecting its host. Where many see a road, I see a scar down mother earths back. This is not natural for us humans to see such things. We are genetically designed for images of trees and rivers to flood our eyes. Instead we see buildings and streets of concrete hiding the natural soil beneath it. What happened to the air, the wind blows a scent of pollution and death wheras it once carried the smell of wildflowers and thriving life. It's hard to hear the crys of a dying planet and know that you are part of whats killing it. This is the only known planet in the universe that can support life, yet we still treat it like shit. Once its gone, then what...
Poor greedy humans, it is our nature to want more then we need, and it is this that will eventually destroy us.... but my greatest fear is that with the death of humankind will come the death of earth and all of life.

I just would like to share some thoughts on what you said in your last sentence. (Also, I think our thoughts flow to the same rhythm, don't you find, it is like reading what I'm thinking! How odd).
Um, contrary to the impression I might have given off in my aforementioned post, I'd like to just say that I think the earth will long outlive us humans. We will, at the rate we're going, be the cause of our own extinction which is fine by me, we deserve it if anything else, but this planet is one of change and adaptation. It used to be that for biological organisms, oxygen was lethal! Well, even with the depletion of the ozone layer I think the earth itself will be just fine... maybe the trees will die, rivers will shrivel up BUT the planet will only cease to be when our sun (which is still quite young) reaches the end of its life.

Make No Mistake. Nature Cannot Be Harmed. Only Ego.

I think thats sort of what I was getting at in my second post. I mean, we're such an egoistic species thinking that if the earth is not suitable for us than ITS in for it to. No, we're subject to change just like everything else. If something is born it must die, like the human race. We are not the first organisms to crawl this earth nor will we be the last.

yes, most likely our planet will outlive us. I sincerely hope it does. But I just have these morbid premenition of the future lingering in the back of my head. I feel that it's possible for humanity to destroy all of the nature that lives on this earth. If in the future all the vegetables we eat is grown in a green house. All the livestock living inside large containment areas being pumped full of the bare minerals to survive. The ozone layer destroyed and everyone living in air-tight housing facilities with oxygen coming from algea instead of natural plants. Of course this is all just a quick fabrication to show an example of how the carelessness of a growing human population could overcome the will of life to sustain life. I don't know if i'm making any sense at all because i am kind of high and just rambling. But basically what i'm trying to say is i think its possible for humankind to fuck this planet up so much to the point where it can not heal itself, and that thought scares the shit out of me. But then your probably going to say don't worry, mother earth can always heal herself.

Well, I think we humans have a harder time dealing with the idea of change than we should. Nature is bound to change, and I think thats fine. Its just us humans want so badly to exist that the idea of not being here (and worst of all, earth not being here) is quite devestating. When we learn to just accept and move on without attachments then it is so much easier to be happy.

Humans are merely a species. One that's struggled successfully for dominance and is clearly now having its day. It won't last. Let Cohen have the last word: Something forgets us/ Perfectly.

Damnit, Ashley, you so should have been at school yesterday and today -- in science class we watched this video called "Forbidden Forest" about how big companies are chopping all the trees down in our province and leaving the land all shittered up and not cleaning up the mess or replanting. You would have loved it! It was from Paul (Duck Man).
