Well, do you guys actually think its possible to perform spells and magic? This isnt one of those "rip on the pagan" threads I was just curious as to wether or not it was possible for these spells that one speaks of to actually be performed and work, or if its more of a symbolic/traditional thing. Peace and Love ~Matt
a bit of both... symbolic but they do work, if done properly. and yes, I've done the whole cast-a-spell thing... with quite a bit of success thus far!
Yeah.. I think the main factor is about the channeling of energy.. you know, really focussing on something. Spells and symbolism can help with doing that.. maybe it's just 'wishfull thinking' or 'fake it 'till you make it" or even 'selffulfilling prophecy" to name some clichés, but hey, if it works, who really cares how it's done? It's just a form of praying really, which is channeling of energy as well.. All IMHO
I've only tried one with that actual intent; I mean I ask for blessing and such, I don't mean those. I looked the spell I did up in a book. Valarium (sp?) root, 3 tbls. boiled in three cups of water for 13 minutes, strained and sprinkled around the house, especially in the corners. It was supposed to bring peace and healing, to end strife and I believed it worked amazingly well.
so many people i've encountered ask me about spells and such. and some actually ask if sparks fly from my fingers, if i sacrifice animals, and various other stereotypical imagery. i think it's really important for anyone outside the Pagan faiths to know about the reality of spellcasting; that is IS about energy-focus, love, and connection (rather than "hocus pocus"). so i say cheers to theskaeffect for seeking knowledge!
it's like prayer, only it works on the physical and etheric planes, rather than the spiritual - well, unless you're doing high magick, or some of the wiccan deity-based spells, for example. but it's like a prayer, only instead of just words, there are actions and physical symbols that go with it. and unlike some forms of praying, in which you ask deity for a favor, with a spell there is a certain level of personal responsibility and accountability assumed. you raise the energy, direct it with intent, and follow through with action yourself in order to make it happen, and you take on the consequences of those actions. i accept the concept of immanence, meaning i believe magick works because we are acting through our own inner divine, our higher self, if you will. others have a more rule-based view of magick, such as the wiccan rede and the rule (or law) of three.
