This was on the local news today about a high school student going barefoot for a month. Thought I'd share. http://www.9news.com/news/local/art...oing-barefoot-for-a-month-to-raise-awareness-
Whew... when I've read that the school is in Littleton, CO, I first had "Columbine High School" on my mind... But he's doing this to raise awareness on a differnent matter... A nice way of doing so, even though bare feet might not be connected to child sex trafficking and the abuse of children world-wide in this. Quoted from the article: " Cobi felt a calling. "This is a message between me and God now, saying, 'You can do hard things,'" he said. "Do Hard Things" is a theme at the school. "I think in our culture, talk is cheap," Brent Glossinger, the school's director of discipleship, said. He says Cobi's journey is part of a life lesson. "It got a hold of him. He realizes it and says, 'Man, I can make a difference,'" Glossinger said." Well, bare feet can become a sign of trying to change the world... just like in the good old hippie days, isn't it? People who do this kind if thing to "raise awareness" for whatever, really only perpetuate the idea that barefoot = poverty, poor, abused, neglected, etc. There are plenty of ways to raise awareness about various things. But IMHO going barefoot is not a way that we, as barefooters for health and other reasons, should condone.
I was barefoot and bare-bellied, wearing a sarong, when I came to a nice place where I wanted so sit and meditate... some one who does not See has littered the place with trash - mostly chocolate bar wrappings, used paper hankies (kleenex-like stuff), a clearly used condom (I hope they had a nice time there... it's a beautiful place not only to meditate in) and a supermarket plastic bag. I took the bag, picked up the trash, went to a nearby trashbin, and went back into that special place to do my barefoot meditation and breath exercise... I did not have someone post this in a newspaper, but I was on a little hippie mission of my own, then. Trash... The tree, under which I sat and meditated... Feeling the now clean place... But it wasn't for charity - just for good karma. That Cobi person is also on a mission of his own, and a spiritual one, too, since he claims to have received it from his communication or even communion with God. Hey, why not? If he finds a partner, they could be the barefoot Blues Brothers... "we're on a barefoot mission from GAWD!" Wiggling bare toes, ~*Ganesha*~
