It's spelt Quebec, and that's in Canada, not America, unless you mean NORTH America , and yes, it's a predominately french province, the dialect is called Quebecois. There's also Acadian french in the maritme provinces (the oldest french dialect out side of France) and many OLD and well established francaphone communities scattered throughout northern Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. The Cajuns down in louisiana are actually decendents of the the Acadians, they were deported by the british empire when it siezed control of that region of New France WAY back in the day. Unfortuneatly Cajun culture is slowly dying out, it's at the point where there are practically no youth who speak french as thier first language, which is a shame because it's such a unique dialect and culture. All tolled I think there are well over 9 million francaphones in North America, nearly 90% of which are in Canada and most of those, roughly 7 million, in Quebec. Then there are spanish speaking hispanics, TONS of them in California, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, New York City and Miami, I would make a rough guess of 20 million, maybe more, maybe less. Then there are the really multi-cultural cities like Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, New York and Washington DC which are home to millions and millions who's native tongue is not english, usually not even european but Asian. Finally all over the prairies, both Canada and the US, and pockets of Pensylvania, Ontario, New England, and New York there are lots of old agricultural communties where dutch, german and eastern european languages are more predominate then english. Oh, and there are dozens of indigenous languages spoken by the native population, which in Canada number about 1 million on and off the reserves and nearly 10 that number in the US. Although in many cases it's not the maternal tongue because of the oxidental infulence over the centuries. And as we all know Mexico is part of this swath of land we call Norht America, and Mexicans, speak, you guessed it, Spanish although it's a rather distinct dialect. Mexico is alo home to a sizable number of indigenous groups with thier own languages. So ya, there ya go, pretty funny mix match we got goin on eh? If we count the Carribeans, South and Central America your throwing in a few more hundred million spanish into the mix plus about 150 million Portugease and an additional scattering of french(including creole), english(various island dielects), german, dutch and even Japanese (Sao Paulo Brazil is home to the largest Japanese population outside of Japan). And there ya go, don't ask me why I bothered to type all that out, I have no bloody clue, haha
you can't say that a whole province doesn't speak english. it all depends on the individuals. lots of people in, for example, ontario can't even speak english. but in every province, people do speak french and english, and other languages.
I love how the canadian gov surpressed the protest against Bush. I guess they wanted to kiss his ass in private!
He knew what was going on, it dosn't make a difference if bush made visual contact with them or not....
I was reading some of these posts most of them from Paul Morphy He sure does give canadians a bad name. There is lots in canada to be proud of in canada but also there is just as much to not be proud of. Every country has there pros and cons . Paul Morphy all he did was make canada look stupid. How someone can have a one sided opinion to think that canada is the best is just crazy. I am Canadian and I am happy to be canadian, but we also rely on the rest of the word for things and every country does. I dont think that one country could survive on it own without import/export. What I am trying to say is that yes canada does rely on the US for protection. The US also relys on canada. I think that we should accept that there are good things and there are bad things that each country has to offer. I like Molson canadian beer even now that is owned my an amarican company and I think that Quebec should leave all they do is bitch. I dont think that newfoundland is that hard off, I now lots of newfies and there are still lots of them going back home so it cant be that bad. I think that people just got to learn to get a long we are only here for a short time so why not make friend unstead of just make enemies. I like to go to the US there are a lot of nice people and the same with Canada. This Paul Morphy is really an ass hole were not all like that.
