Just curious as I consider myself a coffee "snob". Yes...I roast my own beans and I only brew using the vacuum brewing method using either a Bodum-Santos or a vintage 1940s Sunbeam C30 vacuum brewer... There truly is nothing like freshly roasted and ground coffee beans brewed with this method. Truly is a cup of exquisite perfection. How 'bout you folks? French Press? Chemex? What do you do in pursuit of the perfect "Cup o' Joe"?
Oh...Here's my Sunbeam...made in a time (1940s) when "craftmanship" still meant something in America. This is a thing of beauty in it's own right and brews an awesome cup...
I don't roast my beans- but I grind them... the coffeemaker I own does that. Unfortunately it was not crafted in the 40's but around y2k or so which means it's liable to give up the ghost any day... but in the meantime I enjoy a damned good cup o' Joe.
I am kind of a snob. I don't roast my own or anything, but there are a lot of local roasters here and I definitely only get shade-grown, organic and free trade.
Nothing fancy, not a snob. I grind my own beans though, and use a funnel/filter and make one or two cups at a time. You can stand a spoon up in it.....
I've always wanted to roast my own and from what i've read there's nothing like it . That's it i'm going to buy some green beans damn it . How do you roast yours ? Oven - Pan - popcorn maker ? Which method is best ? And where the hell can I get one of those nifty vintage 40's vacuum do-dads ?
Good News Everyone. Now you can inhale your caffeine instead of drinking it. ^Uh.. no thanks. What will they think of next, eyedrops? Oh wait.. that's already been done, I just looked it up, lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sN3ntD01xEs&feature=player_embedded"]Caffeine Eyedrops - YouTube I remember staying with my grandparents for awhile when I was a teen. Waking up in the morning smelling the coffee they were making in an old percolator. I don't know what kind of coffee it was, but I've never tasted better coffee than that in my life since. These days, I just grab some French roast from Circle K once in a while. It's got caffeine in it at least.
No! The heat, aroma, and taste play a big part in my love of coffee! The heat is so "head-opening", lol
Yeah, I remember hanging around close to that percolator, with the steam coming out and the coffee bubbling up in that glass thing on the lid. I'd be waiting with my cup right there in front of it, lol. Edit: I even had a cup with my name printed on it that they got me for my birthday.
Indeed. Also, the darker the bean, the less "characteristics" of the bean's unique profile. In other words, as one roasts darker, all the beans tend to taste the same.
I've got a 1950s electric percolator, a Keurig, a normal drip coffee maker, and a traditional Bodum French Press. For the beans, I grind them myself. It really depends on the brand/flavour of coffee I want at the time to help me decide which machine I should use. Usually the flavourful ones I use my french press because its coarse and you can taste the flavour more. I usually take my coffee black, or with cream/milk. I love all roasts. French and Breakfast blends are my favorite. I have probably on average 4-5 cups of coffee a day, but I would call myself more of a tea addict than anything... (don't even get me started on my tea!) Rofl I should also probably mention I'm Barista by day, so I take my coffee/tea with me wherever I go and whatever I do!
:bigcry: I want! I want! I want! :bigcry: When I feel like working outside the home, I am a barista, as well. Breakfast blends are my favorite. Light roast, heavy caffeine. Love Peruvian coffee, too.
How does that thing work? Percolator? I love coffee and just learned about French Roast and dark coffee not having the caffeine and flavor. What should I get? Light roast? I thought the darker the roast the stronger and tastier the coffee?
