Dear Occupy & Rainbow family The big news from 2012 Ocala Rainbow Gathering, which begins Friday (2/10) is that Everbody's Kitchen, the original Occupy Wall Street kitchen from Zuccatti Park, will be the kitchen for the Occupy Camp at the 2012 Ocala Rainbow Gathering. This is a homecoming of sorts as Everybody's Kitchen was founded at the 1992 Ocala Rainbow Gathering, 20 years ago, but this is the first trip back in many years. Ocala's gathering is now in its 26th year. The Occupy Camp at the gathering is expected to be very active with estimates that as many as one third of Ocala's attendees have been being active in some way with the worldwide Occupy Movement. A joint Occupy General Assembly (GA) and Rainbow Council is scheduled for (Rainbow) Noon, Sunday 2/12 at Main Circle. There will be signage from the parking are to Occupy Camp. Rainbow Gatherings are leaderless assemblies and gatherings of tribes and communities that take place mostly in National Forests. The annual gathering is centered around July 4th and is in a different location every year. Ocala is the largest regional and also known as the Winter Gathering of the Tribes. Two to three thousand are expected between 2/10 and 2/26 in twenty-five to forty different camps, kitchens and community with focuses that range from geographic, to spiritual to entertainment to, with this year's Occupy Camp, community organizing Participants can expect to see temporary communities and kitchens where a wide demographic of people live and work live in tents and under tarp shelters, cook over open wood fires and work together. The camp is at least a 1 mile walk in from parking, depending on where in the gathering you are going. A monetary economy has been eliminated in favor of gifting and barter and there is a Trade Circle or area. Dinner is served around sunset at Main Circle and attendees are expected to bring their own bowl or cup . Alcohol is not allowed inside the gathering.
