I am going to get my hair cut on the weekend and won't be wearing any shoes.

I would like to make conversation with my hairdresser about going barefoot, she is very attractive and I always get my hair cut there (barefooted of course).

First I will be walking to the shopping centre which is about 20 minutes from my home, which will make my feet very dirty.

When I am waiting to get my haircut I plan to sit with my leg crossed to show the dirty sole of my foot and draw attention to myself being barefoot.

Does anyone have any other ideas on how I can draw attention to my lack of shoes and make conversation with the hairdresser about it?

  2. Wear shorts!
    Glittery toe rings!
    Ankle bracelets!
    And a T-shirt proclaiming
    GO BAREFOOT
    or (better)
    NO SHIRT!!!
    I think you'll be noticed....

all the hair cut stores here have signs saying shoes and shirts required for SAFETY reasons. what safety reasons? I can go in with flip flops, how much safety are those?

First of all, congratulations on your decision to be open and confident about your barefooting in the mall and at the hairdresser's. People will most likely gape at your barefooting in this time of the year, but just do what feels good for you and walk barefoot proudly.

I would guess, that your bare feet alone will draw the hairdresser's attention to them and be a conversation starter - displaying a dirty sole might be a turn-off, since that would confirm shoddist apprehensions and fears about barefooting - "it's dirty! You're gonna catch billions of germs!" etc., might be the reactions to seeing that. If the conversation starts revolving around sole strength from barefooting, and she'd ask to see your sole, show it... if she reacts to the darker color, you can always explain, that bare soles are easy to clean, for instance by walking over some grass, and that your bare feet are washed more often than the soles of people's shoes.

Shorts are a good idea, if it's warm enough - it makes very clear, that you're barefoot intentionally and don't hide it. Foot jewelry? Well, I'm kind of biased, since I wear toe rings, anklets and also nail polish, too. I'd vote for wearing that, definitely... but it's all a matter of your personal taste.

If you wish to keep it low-volume, try wearing one anklet and one plain silver or golden toe ring, making clear, that you're barefoot on purpose and not by accident or because of having lost a bet or something.

Going to the hairdresser's barefoot and with adourned feet was a thing I did once or twice a year to change from my winter hairdo to the buzzcut spring hair styling, being the basis of shaving my head at home, giving me my sort of trademark barefoot, big-bellied laughing buddha appearance. And the staff at that salon including the owner remembered me, too. "Ah, here he is again, and barefoot as usual, too. Nice to see you, have a seat..." was the usual greeting. Since havign bought an electric hair clipper to get that hairdo done by myself (it's cheaper than spending money there regularly), I haven't been there again, though. For the feeling of being a welcome customer - barefoot or shod - I would've returned there many times. But I got that inexpensive hair clipper at a price that is lower than getting one haircut there... Plus: being a naturist, I can now be barefoot all over when cutting my hair... try that at a mall.
    :D

Indeed, that "safety" thing is highly bogus, since hairdressers base that rule on the possibility of small hair splinters from the clippings penetrating bare skin and cause inflammations, possibly leading to pimples or blackheads. And, indeed, flip-flops wouldn't be any protection against that, if those splinters penetrate softer skin of inexperienced or beginners' bare feet. Well-trained barefooter soles are tough enough so that this stuff wouldn't stand a chance of impaling the living leather we wear.

    Enjoy your barefooting!

I got a haircut on Wednesday during lunch break. Went in there barefoot and no one said a word about it.

I have done that a few times. The first time was in winter and the girl just asked if my feet were cold. I just told her that it was hot work walking on my crutches, and I couldn't get a flip-flop comfortably on my injured foot so a pair of bare feet were easier than one shoe and one bare foot. It turns out she had injured a knee a year ago and spent a lot of time barefoot on crutches as well.
I went back not long ago. this time my leg was back in a cast, it is summer and quite hot, so I got brave and not only did I go in with a dirty bare foot 98and a dirty cast on my other foot) but I had no shirt on either. That was an awesome feeling!

I went to the hairdresser today barefooted - she didn't say a thing!

We still made conversation but I am not sure if she even noticed I was in bare feet!

    Oh well, maybe next time!

It is a cold frosty morning today and I have just had a great chat with my hairdresser as I went in barefoot (and mud on it as well) and no shirt. We had a long conversation about how being topless with the crutches apparently looks great, and how going barefoot in winter means keeping feet clean is a hopeless task.

Why do you want the stylist to say something? What does it matter?

You do know stylists chat about damn near anything hoping it turns into a tip, right?

Time for another haircut. When I rang the girl she remembered me from last time and asked if I was still barefoot (yes!), using crutches (yes!) and was I going to wear a shirt? I said yes to the shirt and she said I was more comfortable on the crutches topless she was fine with that!

Although, I can imagine dropping hair causing an irritation to the feet as it drops.
