Heard of the books but never had a chance to read them yet. I've never read a good explanation of the basic plot. Care to provide one?
I dont think banks supplied one. There is no plot.. just what happens The culture is simply humanity melded with technology. Not cyborg but side by side. Banks has one of those minds that is ... well brilliant. Like Phillip Kendrick Dick. One of a kind. I think he left it to us to work out how the situation came about.. The machines are incredibly powerful.. but we gave them purpose. Sometimes the wrong purpose. [past tense] In a whole galaxy.. Huge stories simply vanish in the haze. 400 billion stars.
