I accidently just drove over an animal, I feel so fucking bad... I instantly screamed after hitting it and punched my steering wheel... Does anyone else react like this?
Did you pull over and make sure it was fully dead? or did you just keep on going and leave it wounded? and no I don't hit animals,
I hate killing animals, unless I'm planning on eating it. But what are u gonna do? Swerve off the road and kill yourself in order to save the life of some scavenger? I'll slow down to avoid it but when it comes down to it I'm not gonna feel bad for killing something in the road. The smart critters are in the bushes saying *dumbass*dumbass*! Natural selection..... Get out the way
It was dead, I think it was a possum. Yeah I tried to swerve man but the little thing was so confused by the lights that it ran under the wheels
easier to miss them during the day, not so easy when it's dark and they run from nowhere and all you get is a bump, horrible experience when it happens though. always stop if it's possible, but sometimes you cant if traffic is heavy.
Next time I will stop... Well I suppose It would be the best thing to do, although I could never do it with my hands... I would spew/cry
The swift vehicular demise may well have spared the animal a far more tortuous and cruel fate from disease or attack by a predator. If you are a devout Buddhist then consider that your deed with your car may have released the entity to be reborn in a higher form. Whatever approach you wish to take, there's no benefit to making yourself a second victim of what was an accident.
Depends on what I hit and how injured it was, If it could be saved i would take it with me , If it was going to die im sure i would find some way to put it out of its misurey
You're not going to be able to take many injured animals with you. Unless its a dog, 9.5 times out of 10 it will attack you if you go anywhere near it. And you'd be hard pressed to find a vet willing to work on a wild animal even if you did manage to pick it up. I don't know if you've ever been around an opossum up close, but I would strongly advise you not to stop for one unless you plan on shooting it. I tried to kill one with a tire iron (to put it out of its misery) and all it did was piss it off even more. Mean, nasty, hard headed creatures
Sorry that happened to you, man. I don't drive much at night anymore so this usually isn't an issue. I do see their remains scattered all over during the day..... Ohio seems to have more than many other states I've lived in for some reason. I do get the occasional crazed squirrel trying to attack my car during the day, so far I've been lucky and avoided them......
over here there is a number you call if you hit an animal, Just saying. most vets Im sure would be more than happy to help a wounded animal. That's why they got a job to be a vet to help sick and wounded animals.

Where i live their are signs every 40 miles or so telling the total cost of damage done from deer hits. Its always around $400,000 yearly. Hitting deer here is a everyday thing. It sucks because it can total your car! The state plow trucks that drive those huge rigs don't even touch their brakes when plowing if a deer crosses the road because its safer to kill the animal then to hit the brakes. Those trucks are so big you don't want them sliding. So the deer gets sling shotted out into the field. It usually doesn't survive such a throw.
The only animal I never ever hit with my car was a squirrel and I felt really really bad about it. I constantly live in fear of hitting an Elk though, which happens a lot around here.
Sometimes you just can't help it. Had a raccoon hit his head on the bottom of my car, he took off so quick, it would've been insane to stop and attempt to check on him. This is a BAD idea. Unless it was a dog or a cat, you can't even sort of guess that the animal is wild, and in some places, handling wildlife, injured or not, is illegal. That is only for YOUR safety, they aren't all cute and cuddly like a puppy and once they're injured, they are scared and even more likely to hurt the hell out of you.
