Hackers may have stolen login info from as many as 45,000 Facebook accounts, mostly in France and Great Britain. A malicious worm was discovered to have infected that many accounts. They're saying it's a variant that was reprogrammed help hackers gain control over the accounts to obtain financial and other personal info. In response Facebook locked down the accounts and are requiring the account owners to change their passwords before they can regain access to the accounts. You can expect many more incidents like this as hackers focus their attention on social networking sites like Facebook. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolo...wn-45000-accounts-to-stop-worm-spreading.html
Good job hackers! Too bad the number wasnt 45,000,000... You might not like my post by thanking the hackers for taking personal information but thats what you get for standing in line for the amusement park when you dont even know what games lay ahead... Dont follow when you are unsure!
I liked the way Facebook said that most of the accounts were 'out-of-date'. What exactly does that mean? It means that like most of the half a billion users Facebook claims to have, have already abandoned their accounts. So the actual number of active Facebook users is far less. Just like on this site.
ever try to delete a fakebook account , it like pulling teeth ,at least these hackers got it sort off right , shame 45000 did get 450000000 friend requests from people they might know
I thought you could only "deactivate" an account, which doesn't really mean "delete" this is why I have never once even considered making a Facebook profile.
facebook? farcebook!! opened an account a few years ago, had it a couple of weeks, havent been back since once i realised that the whole fake world wanted to be your friend. people bragging about how many friends they've got that they've never met and never likely to. crazy.
69 adds in 6 years, few I haven't known for a good number of years via various means,,, meh, I don't click their fucking ads and anyone knowing when I'm most likely to be shitting,,, well I'd like to see just how someone might want to use that info to any sort of lasting advantage against me. I'm really wanting for someone to explain to me exactly how someone placing a bunch of random assed crap for people he mostly knows and the CIA of course is in any way doing anything wrong if he's not being led around by bells and whistles and ads. I mean sure they get to build a better profile on me but I'm sure they had a really well assembled one long before I ever made the FB account, I jut filled in some of the finer details and posted a bunch of memes and so forth, told my sister to "be cool" somewhere that the whole world can see, I'm an avid supporter of Marijuana use, facebook or otherwise I'm not going to shut up about it, it's pretty common knowledge amongst those who know me and I'd assume most local authorities as well. No cause for alarm, ss.dd. Just stop clicking banner ads and giving dumb assed spammy apps full access to your account so they don't use you as an ad-robot to market to your whole friends list from and that alone will cut alot of their revenue, but no, people have this thing for big banner ads and flashing html script, it's pretty and it fucking sparkles so they dance to it like a moth to the flame,,, well shit, thanks Darwin,,,
Thank you. Someone needed to say this. For every "sheep" that gets blasted for having a facebook account, regardless of what they do with it, there are just as many hipsters that want to pretend that they're too cool for it, or that everyone who has one is a douchebag... or worse: "part of the problem." I'm not giving away any info on me. I'm just trying to share funny shit, post some cool music up so bands I like will get noticed, get a little news on what's going on in my circle and I'm done. I don't live on it, I don't post every little thing that I do, and I don't sit on my ass and play fucking Farmville all day long and drag people into it that don't give a shit about fertilizing my crops. I really don't see what the big deal is. As long as you're not a moron about posting all of your personal info up, which has ALWAYS been the way of the internet, you should be fine. That said, I think it would be hilarious if it was taken down by Anonymous. I'm not tied to it by any means. This worm thing kind of bums me out, though. I guess this is one way to get people to shy away from it (I think I said that before this happened in another thread, because, as I said there, deviantArt was full of viruses for a while and that almost killed it for me until they straightened it out), but it seems like a lot of innocent people are going to have wrecked computers just for logging in. A good friend of mine just deleted her account. They have "deactivate" links all over the place, but she says that if you dig, you can find the delete button to remove your info from the internet for good. That's not to say that the company itself doesn't have the right to hold onto your info for its own records for one reason or another, but they are no longer public. I'm not sure, because I signed up when I was a freshman in college, and I wasn't concerned about this shit, but they probably have you agree to the equivalent of a release form on all info you post, which basically gives them the right to keep it. The privacy policy probably protects you from having it reposted in public, but they do get to keep a file of your stuff.
The very nature and redundancy of data storage almost demands it being as there are even web spiders at work busily archiving web pages all the time,,, linking references,,, If you use a computer online at all, post anywhyere,,, they're watching. The trick is to know what to tell them, and to know when to tell them to fuck the hell off. The latter moreso than the former imho... :2thumbsup:
Just an fyi: This was probably done by phishing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phishing Protect yourself. I used fb, but I do not use my real name and I don't give it alot of info either. Even if it wasn't the case, I've seen it happen a lot to some of my app friends that got sucked into clicking some sort of odd app. But it is always good to educate our selves on this type of information to know how to prevent things like this happening to us.
There's a way to permanently delete it, if you Google it. They just de-linked to the page that allows you to do so, but left up the actual page, oddly enough. It's just most people don't know about it, they link to it nowhere, and it's not in their FAQ.
A video has surfaced saying Anonymous will attack Facebook on Saturday, Jan 28th. The video calls upon everyone to download a hack that will then be directed at Facebook in an attempt to bring down their 60,000 servers on a global scale. Meanwhile a tweet from Anonymous' twitter account denies this is an Anonymous action. See what you think... I'm doubting this is a real Anonymous project because it doesn't seem like their production and there are some things different in the video. For instance the word "I" is used, whereas Anonymous is always a "we"... The same static image is shown in the video... Anonymous usually has more going on in their videos. I have a feeling Anonymous does not want to really bring down Facebook for some reasons. Like maybe some of them LIKE Facebook and have accounts there... Silly people! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVSQ3JIgIXE"]Anonymous Message On How YOU Can Be A Part Of #OpGlobalBlackout FACEBOOK ATTACK 12 AM EST USA - YouTube
Lulz, ya cannot win. Google teamed up with the NSA and takes cached profiles of EVERYTHING it can. With Facebook selling your info to private dicks, mercenaries, oligarchical third world dictatorships and cops looking up your profile to do busts, deleted data is surely redundant somewhere like stated and likely your posted material is proprietary domain of Facebook. Ixquick is the search engine people wise to privacy should use.
That does not sound like an Anonymous MO and could get a lot of noobs in trouble. I smell a rat. EDIT: I didn't watch the video yet.... EDIT II: Nah..... I don't trust that video.
