Damn good (too short) series. I've got the series and the movie on BluRay. Why Fox killed it is beyond me. Good stories, excellent characters. Anyone else enjoy?

I love Firefly. Someone gave me the whole series, one of the best, which there were more episodes.

What do you guys like about it?

Girl at work recommended it but then said of course it's amazing, it's Joss Whedon, but I hate everything of his I've seen (except Angel, which had some great characters, plot lines and parts, but wasn't that good overall)

Well, I'll give you one instance that "works" for me. Whedon sets up dialog/exchange between the characters in a way that just grabs me. For instance...

In the TV pilot there's this intense scene in the ship's cargo hold where Mal accuses Simon for being an gov't mole, the Shepard walks in to state that he's "got the wrong man" only to discover that it's another passenger who is in fact the agent (who is now holding a gun to them), the scene escalates when Kaley walks in spooking the agent who accidentally shoots her. The Shepard takes the opportunity to disarm the agent and Jayne goes after the agent and the Shepard interdicts. Meanwhile Mal, Simon, Inara are exchanging words about treating Kaley while a gov't ship is bearing down on them to take Simon into custody.

Not sure if I captured the moment too well, but if one was to watch it, the whole sequence of events, dialog amongst the characters, and overall escalation completely drew me in.

I have watched Firefly and Serenity far too many times.

It was Fox that messed everything in the first place. They aired the episodes out of order (showing the pilot last!) and then when people couldn't follow the story (because it was out of order!) and thus didn't really watch it, Fox cancelled it. It had a devoted community for its short time on air, but it's through DVD that it really got most of its fanbase.

I really enjoyed the movie serenity (2005) as the crew tries to evade an assassin sent to recapture River (summer glau) who is telepathic - but I just couldn’t get into the series :(

    Oh, that's too bad.
    You can't beat space cowboys.
And I thought the writing was incredible.
I was begging for another season at the first episode.

    Ew!

I hate space cowboys. Almost as lame as steampunk. (But there are good works of both subgenres)

I don't really know what you're talking about.
I get my shows online, so I'm not up on what's happening on television.

They are both common sub-genres of science fiction; has nothing to do with TV really

What I mean is I only download the few things I like. So I have no idea what new crappy fads come out.

BTW what is steampunk? Sounds like a kind of angry techno music.

Fox has a history of cancelling the best shows.
    Futurama, for instance.
