Do we need a high speed rail between Sydney to Melbourne and Sydney to Brisbane? Air travel is so cheap these days, it seems not to be worth it. Better to spend the money finishing off the Hume Free-way and build one up to Brisbane.
IMO a high speed rail network would be handy, however I think it would serve a much greater pourpouse if it connected some of the smaller places with the bigger cities. I think it could provide a lot of tourism opportunities to both the outback and west coast. Get people where they don't normally have the oppitunity to go to.
I don't agree. The environmental and social impact as well as the cost of increasingly congested airports and roads can only become more onerous.
Trains need to be used more. There is no better way to travel. That's my favourite thing about being over east. I've used the XPT numerous times in the last few weeks but I only wish there were services in between Melbourne and Sydney. I've had jobs in Albury and caught the train at Wagga to arrive in Albury at 3:10PM only to have just an hour and fifty mintues to do my jobs and then I have to wait until 11PM to get the train back! I love doing it but a short service to stations like these would be wonderful.
i do have strong opinions on this but as am neither an aussie or visited there am i allowed to comment here? air travel is so polluting and is using up resources at an incredble rate everywhere i feel we should be using the trains more in every country, not sure about the high speed ones though, why does everyone need to be in such a rush all the time? sorry if ive butted in
