I had to make a choice on which forum to put this on, "Books" or "Dreams", and I figure this fits here better. What do you all think about the book "The Art of Dreaming" by Carlos Casteneda? If you havnt heard about this book, it is about the teaching of a sorcerer named Don Juan Matus on the subject of dreaming, he goes into detail about how sorcerers have devised certain steps to guide dreamers to control their dreams and visit worlds and universes as real as our world we perceive daily.

The concept is a hard one to grasp, but i must say that this book has changed my perception of our world. This book blew my mind haha.

I find the book mysterious because the fact that nobody really knows if "Don Juan Matus" exists, or is a shaman/sorcerer from Mexico. But either way the book hold value in truthfulness about our world, and I think anyone with an open mind or a desire to veiw the world in different way than we've raised to perceive it could benifit from reading this.

Anyone who has read this book, do you practice these dreaming techniques? Have they gotten you anywhere? I have been practicing more control over my dreaming,a way of crossing the first gate of dreaming is to look at your hands in your dream. Next time you dream, make a concious choice to look at your hands. Tell me if you completed the task!:daisy:

    Thanks for the feedback!:)

"Journey to Ixtlan" is the only Castaneda book i've read, but i've been dying to read more. When i worked at a Buddhist/Spiritual bookstore we had a copy of "The Art of Dreaming" but i never had to chance to flip through it. (Obviously working at a store like that, i had quite a lot of reading material).
Castenada is a really interesting guy. I'm not sure how fabricated some of the deeds of Don Juan are, but i like i to simply believe it all. There is so much mystery and mystical things in this world, whether we like to think so or not. under the influence of Senor Mescalito the universe can take many interesting twists..

Have you read any of his other books? Which would you reccomend the most?

The Art of Dreaming is the first Casteneda book I have ever read, I definitly recommend it. I cant wait to read more by him, I was thinking of trying his first book "The teachings of Don Juan". What is the "Journey to Ixtlan" about?

it really recounted many of his experiences with Don Juan from the time they met, to the time many years later when he learns to "Stop the World!". Its a crazy book. Carlos goes out to learn about plants (namely Peyote) from Don Juan, but over a long time he ends up teaching him not just about plants, but the universe as a whole.
I think Journey to Ixtlan is the second book. Probably better to read "The Teachings of Don Juan" first.
If i can find "The Art of Dreaming" anywhere i'll give it a read. Still got 2 books on the go right now haha

Theres not a lot of groups out there that i would call similar to The Zodiac. But theres a group called 'The Flower Travellin Band' and they did a concept album called 'Satori'. (All five songs on it are just numbered part 1 through 5). You know, other than Pink Floyd i haven't found too many other groups who make real concept albums

I haven't actually listened to a lot of Frank Zappa. I'll check that out
