I don't know much about types guitars except I have a jasamine takamine and its a piece of shit... but anyways my parents say they are willin to buy me one for christmas problem is i dont know what kind i should get... all i want is a decent electric acoustic any suggestions?
go to your local music store and play every stinkin' one in there til you find the sound and feel you like that'll be the one
Price range? I would very strongly recomend buying a Blueridge and a nice pickup, should run around 600 all told. The Blueridges are really incredible guitars for the price. An electro-acoustic is really only better if you are playing to a very large crowd, which you are probably not. Even then my personal opinion is they sound like shit compared to a nice acoustic through a mic (Neil Young gets incredible tone from micing his Martins, so did the Beatles, Zeppelin, etc. If you listen to acoustic songs nowdays they sound totally sterile). Acoustic guitars have been made and refined over a couple hundred years to sound good....acoustically. If you want an electric, buy an electric. Contrary to what Esteban would have believe an acoustic sounds like total ass trying to play overdriven stuff through an amp. Also another thing to consider, do you want an acoustic that plays like an electric (ie Taylor) but doesn't sound as good, or do you want something that sounds better but is harder to play (ie Martin) Hope that helps. Feel free to ask me questions via PM, I've played many a nice guitar in my day
Takamines rock, seriously. They are like Tanglewoods but much better, in a few years you will wonder why you said it's shit. For an electric my advise would be Yamaha Pascifica 112 (but then I am a bit biased to my baby). Pascifica's are extremely versatile but more inclined to playing lead. They play like a good mixture between Fender and Gibsons (without QUITE the same amazing degree of quality). Blessings Sebbi
Fender is overpriced molded crap on a stick for acoustics. Check out Seagull, Norman, La Patrie, Simon & Patrick, and Art & Lutherie. They're owned by the Godin Guitar company in Canada. They're hard to find at shops... but check e-bay. Most at least have a solid top... versus the Jasmines which are all laminates... Takimine is ok... but I'd rather go with a good low priced Canadian or US KMade guitar. Also check out Larrivees... a little higher up in the price range than I assume your parents will let you go, but the parlors and the 03 series are excellent for the price. Of course, you can always go for a Taylor (used ones go for pretty good)... Taylor 110/214 series. http://www.guitaradoptions.com/ http://www.godinguitars.com/ and if all else fails, http://www.ebay.com
For an electric, I would go to http://www.rondomusic.net/electricguitar-ss3.html I'd go for an Agile. Almost as good as Gibson in quality and QC, but lesser priced. Way better than an Epiphone... or Fender's squiers... The only Epiphone I would ever buy is their Elite/Elitist series.
If you have any questions, refer to the harmony central forums. They'll help you out... I'm a member there. http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=42
Harmonycentral is not a good place to ask about guitars, half the people there have no idea what a nice guitar is. Try either the Martin or Taylor guitar forums, those are people who know guitars instead of people who have been playing a year or two and have really never played any guitars other than maybe for 30 minutes at Guitar Center, which gets the worst guitars from manufacturors. I'm telling ya, Blueridge, the guitar will last you a lifetime if you take care of it. I can assure you one will smoke every other guitar mentioned in this discussion.
It's biased in thos forums. As long as you stay out of open jam and guitar jam... and the bass forums.... and the amp forums... hahaha... Yeah, I do prefer other forums, though. I only read posts there now. I quit going when LittleBrother quit moderating and started his own acoustic guitar magazine with a forum. And Blueridge guitars really are great. They're Chinese, but some of the people at the factory are ex-Martin luthiers...
