The celebrated group, whose original line-up last played together at Live 8 in 2005 after more than 20 years apart, are expected to be among the star acts at the closing ceremony in August. “It’s long been made clear it would take something very special to get Pink Floyd back together again and it doesn’t get any bigger than the Olympics,” says an insider. “Like Sir Paul [McCartney, who is tipped to open the Games], they have been a major part of the nation’s culture over the past 40 years and it will be very fitting that they’re involved when London is on show to the world. It’s hoped everything can be confirmed in the coming weeks.” Formed in 1965 the group became one of the world’s most celebrated rock acts in the Seventies, with acclaimed albums such as The Dark Side Of The Moon. The surviving members are David Gilmour, 65, Roger Waters, 68, and Nick Mason, 67. Relations soured when Waters left in 1985 and the others carried on as Pink Floyd against his wishes. Live 8 organiser Bob Geldof persuaded them to put their differences behind them two decades later and their emotional reunion was regarded by many as the highlight of the event. Both Waters and Mason have since admitted they would like to perform as Floyd again, with Mason insisting it would have to be “a grander version of Live 8 driven by someone even more major than Bob Geldof”. Guitarist Gilmour has to date resisted the idea. :2thumbsup:
It's not possible for a full reunion to take place due to the death of Richard Wright. Still, it'd be awesome to see the other 3 guys in the band reunite. And since David Gilmour and Nick Mason actually played with Roger in London last year on one of his tour dates, this definitely seems like a possibility to happen.
My money would be on David. Nah, I really think they've buried the hatchet now, especially with Roger admitting he acted like a prat back in the day. lol
Pink Floyd ? McCartney ? A pretty radical musical line-up for the Olympics... if it was the 1972 Olympics. What happened to the 21st century ? Anyone ? .
good point, odd choices when Coldplay and Adele dominate the pop-charts all over the world. still prefer pink Floyd and McCartney tho.
guess getting tickets to see them will be nigh on impossible, best we can hope for is seeing them on the telly. won't want to be going anywhere near london while the olympics are on.
thinking about this, does anyone know anyone whos got tickets or how much they are or were? i could be persuaded to go if it is possible
