Support local music. Start hitting the festival scene and you will find a ton of local hippie type bands. Or start going to bars that cater to hippie/alternative types on music night. Follow those type of bands and you will find like-minded people. You will also get to know the band members. My friends and I have bonfires and many of the musicians will stop by and pick by the fire. It makes for a beautiful night.
Hey mellow, what are you digging now? I use www.jambase.com as a location spot. Often YouTube will have related video, and I have found a couple great new to me folkies that way. Look in the music forum, here as well. Jam bands are under Grateful Dead and Phish. (yes, that is like putting all guitarists under, say, Frank Zappa) Other genres are represented in sub forums. Americana falls in folk and old time bluegrass, usually.
Check out Manooghi Hi, out of Seattle WA. Saw them at Hempfest. Real spiritual rock, India lead Singer Mehnaz is powerful. Kinda Zepplin meets Ghandi. www.manooghihi.com. All over YouTube.
