Any georgia rainbow family members headed to ocala soon? haha Im trying to get down there with my dog
When do you plan on leaving? If like next week my ride from here in Tennessee is looking for riders. He has a van and I am riding with him down for a week and I will be staying in the Forest or around the area. He will be coming back for his job and then returning for the gathering. So, holler at me and we may be able to pick you up. Or he could use the rider later, too.
Alas! There is hope! haha thank god somebody decided to reply. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to respond. I appreciate the offer for help, at the moment Im not really sure when id be leaving. I will be without a home within 2 weeks and was just kind waiting until I got kicked out hahah Also, you and your friend/ride must know that I have a dog who goes with me everywhere so if you guys are willing to give me a ride, my dog would have to come along. But if not i understand. Just talk to your buddy and let me know. Thanks again for the offer Btw do you know how long the gathering is? I heard a month? haha thats so crazy i gotta hear it twice to believe it, thats awesome!
Do you have a number where he can contact you? Do you have gas money to chip in? Council is the 14 and 15 at Lake Mary to decide exactly where and the dates. The actual gathering is about 2 weeks. Seed Camp is before and Cleanup after. We were planning on leaving Wednesday from Johnson City, TN. You would have to meet us somewhere easy to locate. If not I have a friend in Atlanta that may need a roommate. Charity Johnson. I will contact her and see.
Yes I do have some money to throw down on gas, I just dont have a car so Im not sure where youd want to meet thats easy to locate but i live in gainesville ga north of atlanta close to the gainesville state college
Glen said to call him and he and you can talk. I had to make sure it was OK to give you his number. Though he has posted it at another forum. From Johnson City if we head down I-26 to I-85 to hit I-75 to Ocala and then over to the forest you would not be that much off the route. Talk to him or maybe with internet directions he can find your house. His number is 423-483-1699
Thanks Cricket, I appreciate the help. I will give Glen a call. I was wondering though, if the gathering doesnt actually start for a while but you guys are gonna already be down there down that mean its ok to come early and just camp out there or what?
We are going to the 2nd Annual Buck Lake Hangout with the Hammock Forums folks and also going over to the Rainbow Council meeting. Yeah you can just camp out. As long as you got grub to eat anywhere in the forest. Seed camp will start soon after the Council meeting wherever the Gathering is decided to be. The council will convene and folks will head over and check both out and then the council will reconvene and decide and then they will sign the papers with the rangers. I will be staying in the Forest. From the forest you can head over near Ocala and hike in and work out of the labor hall there. There used to be one there or camp near Deland and get to a pickup point for the Labor Ready van which that labor hall is on the edge of Orange City, Fl near Deland. I know the Hess station used to be a pickup point and there was one downtown. I used to live in Deland, FL. You can camp in one spot for two weeks and then you got to move 1 mile as per all National Forests. There will be a Seed camp in the area of the Gathering and then there will be a cleanup crew after. Before and after you got to provide your own groceries mostly. May be a kitchen set up or not. During there is main circle where they feed everyone and the kitchens where you either join the crew or donate to get fed. I go gather wood or do other chores. At Council you will meet other rainbows and can maybe hook up with someone to camp out with. Which is what I will try to do. The Hammock hang is 13-16 and the council is at Rainbow noon at Lake Mary which is nearby Buck Lake. Camping in the woods in Florida beats being homeless in Georgia and you can probably find someone to watch your dog if you head into town to try and make some cash. Glen is going down to hang out and then traveling back down in February for the Gathering. He has to work what paltry hours they are giving him.
Google Ocala National Forest. Look at the map. Alexander springs area is just across the highway from Buck Lake and Lake Mary where the council meeting is a bit south and west of Buck Lake. There are lots of hippies in the Forest all winter. A lot of them will be at Lake Mary hopefully. If you get on the road and hitch to town to get groceries you usually meet some and find out where every one is camping. I plan on just heading to the area near where the gathering is going to be if I don't hook up with anybody to hang with. Camp there and head into town when I need groceries until things get going.
They are talking about a Horseshoe site from the thread on this forum, but I do not know where that is. Guess we will find out at Council.
Thank you for all the information on the ocala gathering, that sorted out many questions I had. Now i just gotta get my shit together before it starts. I texted Glen today but didnt hear back from him. Im not sure what time you guys are leaving next week but if I dont have the rest of my money yet then i will be unable to travel down with you guys so i guess im just gonna kinda play it by ear. Im gonna look into the possibility of just taking megabus down there or something
