I was just wondering if there would be any gatherings around Mid December- Mid January? Preferably around the East coast
Best calendar I know of is www.welcomehere.org . How much travelin can u do RS 420? & how large of gatherings do u like? Some ppl don't like smaller ones, & actually consider them anti-rainbo. Our friend in beautiful alabama rainbow family has many small ones thruout th yr. ''ve personally neverbeen 2 one of these alagigs. I may attempt 1 near lake of the ozarks in MO around thosetimes. What part of east coast r u, no or so? There used 2 b a decent 1 somewhere near asheville. Noidea when tho. I haven't ea coasted in longtime.
why not join the walk from dc to atlanta ? it has begun , and from the pics some of those people seem oh so familiar in easiness , walking softly , knowing .
Im curious about this rainbow family. I feel like I may have met a few of you before...im not sure though. I went to alchemy the ga burn in lafeyatte ga and I think I saw a few people who said they were part of the rainbow family and at the time that was the first I'd heard of them. I'm about to be homeless and just trying to break away for the social norms of the masses and meet more like minded, peaceful individuals. Im at a turning point in my life and just not quite sure where to turn heh Im thinking south florida. Oh well if you have any advice or information on the rainbow family feel free to share
Hi doobie, rainbow family events can vary in size. Drum circle, potluck, weekend campout, council, regional, national, international, & several in between & beyond. Natls(national) r generally held in national forests.only once per year. These must be moved to different locations evry yr. This is because of generally their size. It takes awhile for the land to heal from these. It's size can vary from 2000 to 100000 ppl. Tho some may dispute those numbers. Average size is 30000. Regional rainbow events generally r smaller & more than one r done thruout th yr. Each one tends to be held annually. Allthis has generally been known to be done since the first national in 1972. Altho, certianly there was a council for this before that. & possibly drum circles, &/or potlucks. Both regionals & nationals go thru a necessary process. Council, scouting, holding camp(this can vary & not always done), seedcamp, main event(the name may vary), cleanup. As u can guess an event for 30000 ppl takes alotta planning as well as time. Councils as well take place during events some r actually done every nite. Some events as mentioned r pure councils. So in council during natl main event, location for nxt yrs national is vaguely determined to be in one or more states. These generally being @least 2000 miles away.
This generally tends to be necessary as ppl would setup camp in next yrs location directly after national ends. Probly without even helping cleanup or obviously attending council. & govt officials must b kept in th dark as well abt locations up til last minute. Locations have been messed up cuz 2 many ppl came early. Events in some cases been loved 2 death. So after spring national council, secret scouts r sent 2 various locations, a holding camp is setup(tho not in all cases). I truly have no idea when holding camp was invented. Holding camp serves purpose of bein a sorta mini council, a practice run as it were. It tends 2 throw ppl off, & as well gives ppl a place 2 go givin them piece of mind. Supplies become better organized as holiding generally is ever closer to actual site. Then holding gradually, smoothly , quietly becomes seedcamp. Main event for natls generally starts july 1st. Traditionally july 4th is a quiet morning. Silent prayer @ noon. Then heartsongs r sung afterward. Oops I 4got generally after council main circle is held nitely. This, even w/o council. Then after the 4th of july, cleanup begins. Unfortunately many folks skidaddle away. Cleanup takes awhile & some controversy often erupts as 2 whether or not it's adequate. But generally sites become pristine again eventually.
Thank you so much kinulpture for the information! I've been trying to get some responses out of people to learn as much as i can before im shit out of luck living homeless in south florida. Im just trying to reach out and meet as many people, especially those nice folks from the rainbow family, as possible. I plan on attending the gathering in ocala, it shall be my first! Im excited
I dunno bout recent yrs as I haven't attended a large one in awhile. But tradtionally there are no gasoline or diesel generators @ a gathering. These tend 2 be a +-5 mi walk into the forest. No vehicles r allowed on this trail, generally. This is 2 promote a sense of oneness with nature. Generally the music just being what is known as accoustic blends w/nature too. Outside of main trail is & this can vary. Parking lot, front gate, bus village, back gate, & I have actually seen a seperate jesus camp, tho notsure how oftenthis is done. Alongg main trail can be various camps. Once past main trail r various camps. Kiddie village, main kitchen, hospital(also known as calm/mash(center for alternate living medicine)) mash from the tv show/movie. Some rainbows served in vietnam, so terms often come from there. Many vets have found peace in rainbo. All are welcome. Other camps include fairyland which generally is gay & or lesbian. Tho there may a seperate lesbian camp I dunno that may vary. Hare krishna, pagan/druid/wicca. Nudist camp may sometimes be seprate sometimes not. Generally there r signs posted. Often men will come only to stare @ young naked stoned hippie chicks. So staring isn't generally accepted. There is a strong sisterhood & often a seperate sister circle. Work in allthis is on a volunteer basis. I'd say tho some folks don't. So if someone doesn't help a tiny bit yet tries 2 2 reapmany benefits, this is unfair 2 others who work 10 or more hrs/day. So volunteering is encouraged. Unimaginable benefits accrue from it. Alcohol is generally kept away from main trail. 2 easily consumed along it. & certainly not in main body of gathering. Tho some is quietly slipped in frm time 2 time. This is generall oyerlooked if kept peaceful & secret. So alcohol use is generally kept in parking lot, front gate area. Even more specifically alcohol icamps area called a-camp. This is where one can generally vent ones frustrations. But watch yerself, others may have more frustrations than you. So, one takes precautions here. & generally family will donate alcohol 2 a-camp as sometimes a-camp provides security, or so the theory goes. I have a drink now & then but I personally don't feeel comfortable around violent alcohol use/abuse. But I guess if healing is close by, folks have option of it. So this system kinda half-ass works, or appears to, anyhue. There have been unfortunate incidents @ gatherings. & these aren't always attributed 2 alcohol.
