ok, i make money creating hemp necklaces and bracelets. i have a following now, been doing it here for a year and im pretty good at it. i have my own style, isnt the norm. i want to start to make my own pendants, and maybe even wrap a hemp necklace somehow. (think it would look cool). i live outside as my roomate kicked me out 3 months ago. dont worry i live in florida it isnt gonna snow here. anyways i think my backpack weighs like 40/50 lbs with all my glass/stone beads and balls of various hemp, blanket and other needful items. so i wanna know without having to buy a lot of heavy or uneeded crap, what do i use for the tools. i know i want to get a pair of bent roundnose pliers, and 2 gauges of wire. what is absolutely necessary to start wrapping stuff myself?
http://books.google.com/books?id=I7...&resnum=9&ved=0CHcQ6AEwCA#v=onepage&q&f=false Not sure if this has much on wire wrapping itself, but I'm sure you could find some useful techniques to help you cobble odds and ends together steampunk style while on the road. Amazing what you can find parts-wise in old watches and old manual typewriters that dont work anymore. Google books has a bunch of stuf on the topic of jewelry making, just do an advanced search and check the "full view" option.
The wire itself is important. My husband made the mistake of ordering my last silver wire in too thin a gauge and it's useless because it breaks when working with it. I use 22 gauge, round, dead-soft, silver wire. The video shows the method I use to wrap. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K50VS8GtZr8&feature=player_embedded"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K50VS8GtZr8&feature=player_embedded Happy wrapping!
hell yeah thanx, i know that you should get a thin gauge and a thick gauge so you can do coils. what about the pliers part? do i need flat nose pliers? i know i need round nose ones for sure
Here is my 2cents, you'll need round, flat and flush cutter, minimum. Wal-mart has a set of 4 pliers in a leatherette case, in the craft department, about $15. Go to JewelrySupply.com and beadaholique.com, they have free wire wrapping videos, or google wire wrapping and you will get all the resources you can use. Good luck, looks like you have the talent to make some great jewelry. Life should be Fun!
OK, so i bought the $8 3 piece plier set at walmarts. includes small wire cutters, round nose pliers, and normal pliers (flat inside) but i could've gotten the 5 piece set for $15 (as stated above me) w/ round nose, bent round nose, flush cutters, normal pliers, some stupid tweezers w/ a scoop on it, and a bead reamer. what do you guyz think i should get, i can alwayz take the one back if it sucks. but the other one is twice the cash, i aint got a job,and i gotta get lucky to sell something a lot of times, on the other hand its got better cutters and bent nose pliers. might even use the bead reamer who knows
Don't know how much internet you have access to, but if you can watch some wire wrapping on youtube, another pair of flat nose will handle most of wire work, the the tweezers are for tiny beads. I have used regular needle nose pliers but had to melt some rubber(used rubber bands and a lighter) onto them because the grooves marred the wire. Wish I could be more help, Doctors got me down right now, Good luck.
