I recently discovered an old record player in my attic with a couple records and decided to set it up in my room. Since then I've been buying records everytime I go to Newbury Comics, Looney Tunes, or any other store that sells records. My collection is getting pretty good, I've got a good amount of my favorite bands. Something about the sound that makes the music seem so much more authentic, with the popping and scratchiness of the records and all, I love it. Smoking and listening to a record player is an awesome experience as well. Anyone else own one?
yea i got one and a bunch of my dads old records. hes got alot of good ones, bob marley, hendrix, the yardbirds, isaac hayes (gets the ladies going) but he also has a bunch of shitty 80's music, like flashdance soundtrack lol, and fuckin lionel richie, but its dank, i need to go get some good records of my own.
I just thought I'd first mention that I could barely focus on what you asked because your sig messed with my eyes. But, wow, that's a good thing.. pretty trippy sig, m'dear. Yeah, I've got a record player and some records. I really love playing my favorite band- The Doors- on a record player. It's the way they were supposed to be heard and it's ultimate to me, for sure. I've always found that the music sounds much better on a record player, too. There's just something more magical about records.
I love my record player and collection. I agree with ML that a lot of the older bands/music have a better feel than mp3s or whatever. Sure an MP3 is goo quality but it lacks warmth.
I do, I also got a hefty collection, ranging anywhere from The Moody Blues to DJ Shadow to The Mars Volta! Vinyl rules! I love having the album covers to look at as well. Many of them have some great artwork.
I love my record player as well Analogue sounds SO MUCH BETTER!!! I last listenend to some christmas music by johnny mathis
So good to hear the younger folks here discovering the beauty of vinyl. The only good thbing about CD's in my book was my vinyl collection grew immensely. My turntable has been in constant use since the early 80's when I bought it.
I got a new record player for Christmas about 4 or 5 years ago and i LOVE it. I of course got to rummage through my parents collection but since then i've got them from friends parents getting rid of their collection, birthdays and Christmas gifts as well as going and getting them myself at the 2 record stores we have here. I've increased my collection to 2 full milk crates. The sound of a record player sounds so much better than on CD.
hellz yeah...my mom gave me my great grandfathers capehart record player/am-fm/8 track player...it needs a needle and can't find one for a good price anywhere... i bought a crosley earlier this year albums...inherited some jethro tull (including an expensive version of the stand up album), jimi hendrix (brand new), a neil young album with cinnamon girl and down by the river, moody blues, styx, and my beloved pink floyd album....classic
for albums that were recorded on analog tape I prefer the lively warm holographic presentation of a vinyl record over the cold & lifeless CD. with new albums that were digitaly recorded or remasterd the vinyl magic is often missing so i´ll usualy get the CD for it´s convenience... unless the Vinyl isn´t much more expensive and comes with a download card or cd.
They know what sounds better also! They werent alive in the 80s and before like some of us were and really love it when they first hear an ANALOGUE copy of a song they like!
I've had my turntable for about 7 or 8 years. When I got it I would listen to a lot of albums in my dad's collection. Stuff like Alice Cooper, the Stones, Rush, Grateful Dead, etc. I'm lucky enough that there's still good record stores in town that sell LP's too. Unfortunately you can't play them in the car. I don't dislike CD's, they're very convenient too but there's nothing like vinyl.
I loved our turntable when I was younger, but I still think yins are crazy. (My favorite song was Jimmy Dean's Ringo, on a Reader's Digest volume) The warm, crackling thing can be cool for appropriately aged music; then I can see the authenticity argument; other than that, I'd rather hear the song than the recording medium. It sure didn't have that "warm" sound before being recorded.
If a record crackles it´s either dirty or damaged. I don´t like to listen to crackling and popping records either so I´ll buy them at second hand stores that use a record washing machine to remove dirt and mold from the grooves. to find out if there is groove damage I´ll listen to a few songs and particularly the quiet parts between songs before making the purchase.
Vinyls are my fucking life man!! Got me an awesome quadrophonic system with my dad's late 70's Pioneer record player which sounds beautiful.. I'm constantly blazing to all my favourite shit. I've replaced so much of my digital music for vinyls that I pretty much only listen to them given the option. I recently went to San Francisco for Furthur's new years show and came out with a pretty good haul in some some of the Haight district's shops: Europe 72' Volume 2 (4 vinyls), Go To Heaven, Earthless: Live At Roadburn, and The Electric Flag: A Long Time Comin'.
