just got their new one, really good. i love those guys. they are a killer band, but their album covers really suck. i don't think it's on purpose, like an inside joke or something, because they aren't obviously terrible on purpose. idk, maybe i'm just high lolz.... anybody else think their album covers are lame?

It doesn´t seem right to have "indie" looking cover-art when the music is produced by hitmaker Danger Mouse but I´ve read somewhere that the van on the cover of El Camino was their home for several years wich makes it a cool cover imo.

whether they're indie, alternative, or whatever, i don't really care. i just know that their songs are addictive and make me want to move.

listening to "lonely boy" right now.. :)

I heard them on Colbert and SNL, and wasn't really impressed enough to buy an album.

They're good at what they do: making generic blues-influenced rock for the masses. Seriously, though, I like some of their songs.

Couldnt agree more, but I must admit their cover of Captain Beefhearts "Grown So Ugly" is worthy of some respect. :2thumbsup: any band thats mainstream and admits to liking Beefheart is awesome.

oh and that album covers awesome! what is an indie cover? you people make "Indie" sound like it is something alien, we are all humans, so our album art can be whatever we want. dont try and label things so much.

Their raw cover of Keef Hartley's Leavin' trunk is awesome. I also like the Breaks from I think the same album. Dan Auerbach's solo album is even tastier in my experience.

Edit: Indie and alternative are too vague genres for me to apply or use anyway. If you wanna give a description of the Black keys heavy blues-rock gives a much more concrete idea than indie or alternative indeed.

"The band name was inspired by a schizophrenic artist and friend in Akron, who used the term “black keys” to describe things he disliked or people he did not trust"

Lonely Boy, clearly is a single...for the masses as someone said before. They are great entertainers, they play great live shows. And Rubber Factory for example is a great album. I especially recommend 10 AM Automatic. :)

Going to see them toniiiiiight!!! :D
I am such a ridiculous fangirl for them. I got the tickets for Xmas, and I've been listening to the new album nonstop. It's never felt like Indie music to me. The first song I heard was Sinister Kid at the end of a True Blood episode, and I thought it fit that show very well: sexy, swampy blues (even though the style is closer to Mississippi blues than Louisiana from what I've heard). I couldn't believe it when I first saw them performing in a video. They do not look like they sound.
Sinister Kid is still my favorite. I wish they'd play it tonight, but according to Setlist.fm, they probably won't. :(

Good to know! I wondered about that myself... I was so excited to get the new album when it came out, but when I opened up the little booklet, that's all I saw was vans. I was kind of annoyed, lol.

This band got old for me quick. I liked a few of their songs I heard on the radio and ended up buying their album at starbucks....yeah. I listened to it for a week and wasn't very impressed. I think I was hoping they were great and that I discovered an amazing band but I realized they play generic stuff and kinda suck.

You can buy music at Starbucks? I thought that was a coffee place. Yeah, they got old for me pretty quick too. I still find Auerbachs solo album more fun than any Black keys album.

Yeah, they always have music for sale at the cash register. I think I'll stick to soy lattes instead.

They were around a while before they blew up and started playing for the masses. I think it's kinda cool that a band I've been into for a long time is actually getting radio play on the local "new rock" station, a station that typically plays shitty nickleback fare.

I wouldn't describe their music as generic, just simplistic and pared-down. It's not all bluesy either. Their brothers album has some soul inspired songs I absolutely love.
