Hi Taastelife how about 10days Vipassana retreat? http://www.dhamma.org/ Goenka or Internationam meditation centre http://www.internationalmeditationcentre.org/ Take care Ivana
I like the short retreats held by Drikung Dzogchen Community Vermont. That group has lots of individuals, great Tibetan teachers/lamas/yogis, and an eclectic community surrounded by American Indian holy places and an AmerIndian/Tibetan Buddhist church, all of it is very nonjudgemental. http://ddcv.com/ Also there are month long courses at Palyul in New York. I liked Pema Norbu when he was alive. I felt he really worked on subtle levels, and I would bet he still exists in samsara on a very fine level. These both are considered Dzogchen retreats, and Dzogchen is a most profound teaching, well beyond what Chopra teaches (he gave the graduation speech at my university). Chopra is really still a pundit for Vedic Hinduism. If you are a Hindu then great. If you could go on a Chopra retreat and practice Ayurveda and study it, that would be ideal. But as you noted, the cost right? palyul retreat is from July 10th to August 10th, and probably longer unstructured if you wish. http://retreats.palyul.org I can point you in the direction of something closer to you if you PM or post here with your ideal locale. And if this sounded like a good starting point for you.
PS, stay away from Goenka, it shares all the unnecessary baggage of the worst cults including monitoring, signing forms about maintaining secrets and other merde. the places I have and will point out to you are all open for all people, make you sign nothing, are generous with all aspects of their teachings, and compassionate, and allow for human foibles and enough to attract a wide range of individuals, similar in that way to Chopra, as he doesn't demand alot besides cash.
Meditation will lead you to access the natural core of strength that lies at the centre of your being. It permits a connection to your inner source, allowing the release of the things and roles you are caught in; work, parenting, concerns, and any other duties and responsibilities.
Class attendance is mandatory...a factor behind some unfavorable reviews on the internet review site TripAdvisor. www.sivanandabahamas.org
http://siddhayatan.org/ Went here a month ago and learned a great deal from what I believe to be a true Guru. Check out his videos on youtube https://www.youtube.com/user/yogeeshashram?feature=g-all-u
