So, I live in a little city in Chile, where there are no expert places to go to get your head dreaded nor do I know someone who knows how to properly do it. I dont have the time to do it naturally cuz once I get out of college I'll have to get rid of them, unfortunately. So I took a trip to another city and stumbled upon a barbershop where they said they could dread you hair, so I went for it. The problem is that I had long hair, but the sides shaved, I wanted a kind of mohawk dreadlock style. The back of my head is perfectly fine I love it, but the top, well I dont like it very much. I have really thick and a lot of hair, but on the top of my head I have like 5 or 7 thin dreads it pretty much looks like a spider on the top of my head, there is too much space between each dread on the top of my head. Will the dreads get thicker over time? I just had a bad job done? or maybe I dont have enough hair? http://tinypic.com/r/mta3c0/5 Here is a pic of the top http://tinypic.com/r/2ngymfa/5 Here is a pic of the back Any tips, ideas, solutions?
Those are NOT thin sections, they are rather huge, actually. They will get thicker with time, but since you went to a salon and got it "done" with wax (it looks like), it's going to take even longer for them to actually dread and get thicker. They are just sticks of hair with hard crap in them right now. I say wash that crap out and go natural. It's safer, cleaner, smells better, and will actually look like dreads because they will be.
Umm.... You have my sincere condolences, you really do..... So tell me, why the fuck would you have to cut your hair after college? Cause you should probably comb that out while you still can. If you "can't" have dreads, don't, it will just mess up your hair, that's not how you get them. If you feel the need to "make" dreads, you can find info on doing a good job of it yourself on here, there's a great FAQ, find-able through one of the stickies at the top of the board.
I have a job offer I can't refuse, still I have like 3 years till I finish with college though. The kind of job I'm taking does not allow people with dreads, piercings, you know. So I want to live the dream while I can, since a kid I always wanted dreads, this is my last chance.
3 years is just long enough to grow a bitchin' set of neglect dreads. Or kinda lame backcombs. If the job will really wait 3 years, why wouldn't they also take locks? I personally wouldn't want to work somewhere that they couldn't deal with how I look, so long as I can do my job properly.
Well the job will only wait because it's my dads company. But he would not take me in with dreads or anything like that. My relationship with him is of the worst kind. Anyway he is offering a lot of money that could help me get my family, my sisters and mom (they are divorced) out of the bad situation we are now. No other job would pay me the kind of money hes offering me. Hope you could understand. But as the guy above said, I will wash that crap out and follow the tutorial in this site. I still have just one question, will those spaces fill with time? or should I just un-dread my locks and start over or what?
Okay, that sucks but I do understand why you'd do it then. As for the spaces, if you start out with a brick style pattern it will be visible for a very long time, if not for ever. However, when they get large enough, most locks will show a little bit of scalp in between, as the pull the hair... But nothing like you've got.
As the roots grow a bit and a little loose hair accumulates the gaps should start to look a little less weird and more natural. Good decision on washing the wax out
hey! a fellow chilean around here si tienes 3 aƱos mejor es partir de cero y dejarlos al natural, la experiencia va a ser 100 veces mejor
