I live in UK and consider it to be my home, I have a life, friends and a flat there. But I was born in Finland and grew up there, my family and friends live there, so there's a home in Finland as well. I feel at home in both of these countries and I refer to both of them as home. I've lived a short while in Barcelona and still, when I go back there to visit, it feels like home too. So I was just thinking that what it is that makes you feel like you're at home. To me, it seems like my home is where my heart is and my heart is in many different places and also with different people. What do you think? Where do you feel at home?
I feel most at home in the middle of Pennsylvania, between the Allegheny and Appalachian Mountains. I lived there for 28 years, and it's land and people are a significant part of my identity. Then I moved a thousand miles away to Florida last spring, and I've come to feel at home here, too. Another place that feels like home is my best friend's parents' house in my hometown. It's been one of the few constants in my life.
Home is a state of mind. I am a nomad, never staying in one place longer than a few months at the very most, sometimes less than three days, but I am never homeless. Home is a feeling I get either when I'm around friends and family, or when I am on the road and serendipity is happening.
Home is where my husband, boys and dog are. Home is where I feel my most comfortable, where all my stuff is, where I make dinner and wash the clothing we wear. Home is where we can be ourselves and be with each other. I love my home. It's a very nice place to be.
