Hey there! Could you please tell me anything you know about the San Francisco Diggers of the 60s? There are not too many websites with information on them, I know that they were a theatre group who offered soooo many free supplies and services. I would like to start something similar (although I know it won't be as big) in Toledo, Ohio. We could really use peace, love and a free way of living. I'm hoping to collect donations of various things throughout the winter, and giving them out in the Spring and Summer. I would love more information on the Diggers for some ideas on how to run this though. Thank you!!

I've browsed on that website before I posted this, but it sort of confused me. Thank you though :)

No problem. It's "By" Abbie Hoffman. But he was associated with them(They used to hand out acid filled turkey sandwiches, AT Abbie's "Acid Tests")

He stole a lot of "tips" from them, and published it. Which worked against them, because it allowed not only the public to read, but the companies that were being ripped off to fix the glitches.

The Digger were PRETTY pissed about all of it.
He didn't give them credit, AND fucked their game up...

My understanding was that the Diggers were victims of their own success. When word got out about the supplies and services they offered, so many hippies piled into the Haight that the Diggers were overwhelmed.

my dream is to open a free store, and sell handmade things and get grants/donations to help run it.
