:daisy: Hey there sunshine ! So I've heard many of my peers complain about our generation, saying how they were born in the wrong decade and should have been a hippie in the 60s. They can't stand violence, hatred, rights being taken away, materialism. I only have one question to those who can relate: What are you going to do about it ? I'm tired of always talking about ideas, taking no action. Waiting for some other guy/gal to make the first move. It doesn't have to be huge, but even a mini hippie-revolution within your heart: change your attitude ! Think positive ! Make sure that every person leaves your presence feeling better than they had before. Let's stop with the complaints, criticisms, and self-pity, and start loving and dancing and singing and laughing ! Before we talk about a large-scale revolution, it all has to start somewhere right ? Why not your own mind. Your own heart. Your own being. your energy will flow to others, your joy will be infectious. Then, maybe someday, we'll get our chance to unite in peace and love.
I do wish I could have experienced the 60s like no other! It would have been a wild ride! But I agree, I wish for a time of enlightenment and that is done through a revolution! We need a revolution, and the time is now. Occupy wall street will show that the world wants to tear down this greedy capitalistic society! We will learn to love and be inspired by art and ideas in the near future. And I hope to see weed and even more importantly psychedelics bring their full potential to society soon through legalization, and allowed experimentation where we can benefit from such experiences along with the world Peace and love!
i have an better idea. We should make an hippie concert so to draw every single hippie in that concert so we can teer it all apart start our communities,... My idea sounds dump i know
Wicked idea lol Alll I can think of is waynestock <3 The Uk? yeaaaaa and invite everyone, artists, singers, bands, communities and we could all camp for days haha
When you going to talk about Syria? \ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgMOxGpMcN4"]Syrian soldiers clash with 'armed' opposition - YouTube
All winter my friends, family, and I are collecting clothes, blankets, sleeping bags, accessories, anything really. Then in the spring we will collect food, then in spring && summer we will have mini Be-Ins, and peace gatherings where we give all of this stuff away for free, some friends are going to do poetry readings and some local bands said they'll try to come. We'll paint faces, give away flowers and love beads. If any of you happen to be near Toledo, Ohio next summer, please come
I'm piecing together a book directed to people my age and younger/ the parents of kids & teens about health and veganism. It was my dad's idea. I'm doing the research now.... lots of work.. I hope to continue fighting the food industry :sunny:
You want to have a revolution, drop out of society. Stop eating factory produced food from mega-chain grocery stores. Don't go to college or university to get shackled to debt, all the info you need to learn is out there. Stop paying exorbitant amounts of money on clothing. Stop watching television. Stop watching the shitty movies hollywood keeps making. Read the newspaper only for shits and giggles. Stop using facebook and twitter, all that it does is teach you how to be a narcissist. Only make enough money as you have too. Just boycott the system, that would really piss those 1%ers off. Hit em where it hurts, their wallets. This is what I intend to do out of high school.
Only sort of how it works. There's some awesome movies, from indie to large. There's some clothing that is epensive but worth it, it costs a lot to pay people living wages to make good things, or else you're just supporting moving everything to china. There's lots of ways to avoid debt and get a college education, you will not have the same oppertunities that you will have in college, if you skip it (and if you will, you would have been doing college wrong in the first place) There's great newspapers that give the real news, there's great indie rags too, and other forms of media (like hf and the indie blogs that are commonly linked here) Facebook and twitter are evil, but not just because they make some people narcissists, mostly because of who runs them, why they run them, and the shallow ways of thinking that they force you into. Make all the money you can, and what you don't need, give to those who do, duh. Stop just trying to do the opposite of what you think "they" want you to do, and use your brain to determine what you should ACTUALLY do.
I think you missed the point my friend. I have nothing against indie rags or mom and pop stores. The green fad is ending, it's not trendy to care about the environment anymore. Oil consumption and infrastructure is increasing. We could elect whomever we want to lead our countries and it wouldn't change shit. We don't live in a democracy we live in an oligarchy of the super elite. A depression is coming and the elites know it. I am not advocating a change of governments, I am advocating a complete change of culture. We are consumers. All we care about is gathering wealth to buy things we don't need. You may kid yourself about into believing that you are making a difference by spending your money on alternative brands or whatever but you are still supporting this system. I know it sounds crazy instead of thinking of wealth as goal to work towards, think of it as a necessary evil to live with in this age. Our very core values need to change. If your goals in college are learn about what interests you then there is enough info on the net and in public libraries to learn. If you go to college to get a better job than I cannot help you. And the worst part about social networking is the narcissism. Facebook is just about competing for random people's attention with your various musings and witticisms. This is very bad thing to encourage.
There is nothing wrong with "the system". It's how you use it. Facebook is what you make of it. I won't use it because it's fucking evil, but if it wasen't, I wouldn't have a problem using it, you can abuse anything in life. This forum is very much about using your private musings and witticisms to get attention from strangers, and it, too, is all about how you do it. Going to college to get a BETTER job? no.... Going to college to get a job I LIKE? yes..... there is no room in science for people who refuse to learn, for instance. Peer review is pretty important, deciding you've learned doesn't mean you have. I'm in college to better mysel and my oppertunities, in every way. This "system" only has power because power is given to it by the people. When you stop believing on a social construct it dies or changes. You CAN get involved in politics, you CAN campaign for good, you CAN simply talk to people, and make a huge difference. One thing that won't make a difference is arguing against human nature for some sort of idyllic un-abusable system. All you need to do is add limits to the system that keeps individuals from grossly abusing it. But a lot of people (hell, maybe enough to hit the tipping point) who would help would rather shove their heads so far up their idealistic asses they can see daylight. I'm going to get more coffee. *edit* maybe this is a backlash against yourself? You realized what a consumerist trendwhore you had become, and now we're all either with you or against you in your angsty disdain for "the system"? Anyways, you won't accomplish anything helpful or fix it if you go about it that way. You'll just be written off as not voting and being unimportant, and be yet another apathetic non-vote empowering those who seek to destroy the world for money. And when you can't breathe the air or drink the water because you wouldn't get involved in "the system", maybe you'll regret it.
