well, i know this will sound like everyother post asking for help

but, you see, i am 17, my family is destined to break, not that it is a bad thing, but i need guidance

ever since ive been 15, ive wanted to just stop living the american way of life, and live in a communal family like setting, preferably on a farm, we all own it, growing our own food, however, this has conflicted with my more nomadic call to the road feeling, but ive thought about doing both, traveling, and eventually settling down on a farm

now, i am pulled between going to college, or just hitting the road, but i dont know

the only reason i would go to college is to get a job that can help me get enough money to buy land

but really i dont need any fancy things no material possesions

in a way, all i need is love, some cool people to live with, and just a way of life that fills me with joy and wonder

i want to live in harmony with the earth, and with people who feel the same way

i just have anxiety of how i can make it, as i am very young, i plan to graduate high school, but im tired of waiting, i want to set off now, i dont expect it to be easy, so long as i can make it

    any help is appreciated

    peace

Have you ever thought of doing a vision quest ?

A vision quest is placing yourself in a posture of listening and paying attention
cutting off distractions - usually by going off into nature where you can be alone
    often in conjunction with fasting
the american indians did it with total fasting - not even water - but without attention this could be dangerous

In this culture we have cut ourselves off from spirit -
Spirit may be defined as a reverend attention, focused Awareness
recognition that the material emanates from Spirit....not vica versa

Just a suggestion.....you See, your answers come from within...or they are someone else's answers

    Blessings Be along your Way

    Namaste

or if something happens, which would be alot better, to make me go into the wild

    thank you tho

    Hey Action,

Why not combine your goals? Try finding an urban commune in a city or locale you're interested in going to school at. While I lived at Big Gray Community in Brooklyn, New York, we had dozens of members who went to school, changed occupations and otherwise recreated themselves. It was a nurturing environment for all of us. (If you're interested in finding out a little more about our experience, check out my blog at signalsfromouterspace.blogspot.com). Good luck!

My advise is to finish you high school for sure ... now.
The, travel a bit in the summer: either visiting a commune or just go off and stay with some people and experience a new outlook on life. Do your studies in the fall winter and spring, or travel for a whole year. The opt for the education and summer travels.

There are the options of "Woofing", working/volunteering at a hostel in another country. I operate a hostel in the maritimes in New Brunswick, eastern Canada and could use some help (free accommodation and meals in exchange for some work, laundry, making a few beds, cleaning, gardening, building a shed or two ... there is always something to do year around. But there are many other hostels around the world that would take you on after some basic training.

I have a cottage and land (80 acres) in Canada it just sits there. Located in NE Alberta, it is just a few hundred metres to the lake, and about 15 miles to town. The power could be hooked up, water is easily piped in from the well. The woods are full of wood for the stove/furnace. Or live without electricity, just oil lamps and a wood stove. It would be ideal for the summer.

Land is not expensive if you wish to buy land. Bulgaria has a home on a small plot of land, in a small village for as low as 7,000 usd (house, fruit trees, grapes, and a place for a garden. If you think you are going to get rich off of it, not likely, but you can have a quiet peaceful life there.

If you want the finer things in life you will have to have a good education, so you can afford to buy the luxury items that you want. Not all jobs are bad, if you enjoy it you will be doing yourself a favour, good job that you love is not really a job. Follow your heart and your desires. then you will have it all.

I am considering buying a piece of land in France (or other country) that can be operated as a communal place, kind of like a "Hutterite Collony" operation. People work for their stay and contribute to the cause through work. Stay as long as you like, but there is no financial gain, just live the life of a monk, or whatever. The place would be an old convent, monastery, or an old French Chateau. Life could be good there, but it is just in the planning stages now.

If you want a hippy type of life there are some islands in Western Canada (BC) just off of Vancouver Island. Namely Hornby Island, Denman Island, Salt Spring Island, Gabriola Island, and the best for hippy types is Texada Island and Lasqueti Island. On Lasqueti Island there are many people living very frugaly and work locally to have some food and a place to stay. Dreadlock, dogs on a rope and a very free life. The climate is usually above freezing all year, lots of rain and warm sunny summers. Massively large trees, just a few hours from the west coast of Vancouver Island for surfing. These islands are good for kayaking, fishing, nature, and living a free life of nudism, and the cash crop of the area is "herbs". It is truely a life of music, relaxation, gardening and living close to the earth.

If you drop out of society, there are reprocussions ... if you decide to return you have to start all over: Education, and job exxperience. The wisest would be to do both, keep on with the education in the winters, do some traveling and woofing during the summers.

Good luck (please feel free to contact me if you want.)

Hey man im a pretty like-minded individual.

I am also a 17(18 in january) year old high school student who feels the call of the wild. I wanted to go into forestry in college, but where I live(ontario) there is shit all jobs in the field. I hate being cooped up inside all day, school is torture but I would suggest you complete high school.

Camping is easier than you think dude. Find a nice forest somewhere, throw up a tarp, be careful with your fires, find some comfy moss, get your favourite drugs and enjoy nature.

Outside of high school I am going to roam I think. Only problem is I don't know where to find any real cool people.

The tradition at my school is for everyone to shell-out thousands of dollars at a ski resort and binge drink for week straight. What a bunch of bullshit.

-One, I am not a big drinker.

-Two, I don't really have that type of moolah.

-Three, it is exactly the sort of thing the man wants us to do.

I have been toying with the idea of going on some sort of trip during that week, but I don't know where I would go.

Depends on where you live but maybe we can figure something out.
