im really really keen on going to burning man in summer time, its for 1 week, and i have never been camping properly, i know ill need a tent, food, etc... just asking for suggestions on what things i could bring with me to mak things easier, and advice or suggestions would be muchly appreciated. cheers.
Basics: Tent Sleeping bag and mat Food Something to cook the food on Torch Knife (like a pocket knife) Water
Rain gear and something to sleep on. Decent flashlight and good shoes. Debit card with a nice balance on it helps also
p-38 can opener, cans of campbells chunky soup and just eat outta the can you dont need to heat it up. if anything you can start a small fire if you are sure you wont be seen. tarp! tent optional sleeping bag or nice blanket you can stash away in your backpack easily a chick to keep you company
You need to really study what experienced burners do - how they get some relief from the heat, have enough water to shower every day, deal with the sun, and so on. Deserts are harsh environments.
ALways bring flash light and swiss knife.. you don't know, it might save your life from the wilderness.. And oh! bring lots and lots of protein bars too.. Dont ask be why, just do!
desert?! fuck that man, rattlesnakes/cactuses/scorpions and the like are not for me. when you get up in the morning you gotta take an hour to get outta your sleeping bag cuz guess who's bunking w/ you? A RATTLESNAKE
Must haves for any festival: headlamp (look stupid, but trust me you'll thank me), lots and lots of wet-ones, a big water bottle or hydration pack, bring one more extra tarp than you think you'll need, bring a box of garbage bags, and I'm with Shishi on the protein bars or granola - bring six for every day you're going to be camping. You'll have access to plenty of food and water at burning man, I'm sure - but there may be times when you're hungry and thirsty and you don't want to leave your tent. A tent, a bag, a camp mat, sunscreen, maybe a roll or two of TP and you can camp anywhere. One more thing - practice setting up your tent, by yourself, at least once, before going. More than once is better. Get a simple 2 -3 pole tent. Something you can erect and tear down in less than five minutes. I bought one similar to this about 7 years ago http://www.rei.com/product/810164/the-north-face-phoenix-2-tent and it's survived more festivals than I can remember . . .
