You're right man, but my point was that there are some good laws, I agree that not all the bible should be taken seriously
It's sometimes hard to tell whether I'm on the atheist forum or have gone over to the Christian forum by mistake. So many posters on this thread assume that God has the characteristics attributed to Him by the Bible. I can see why atheists would like this to be true, because it's so easy to attack Him. But there are lots of us Christian folk who are not biblical literalists and find it offensive that the fundamentalist view of reality is accepted as the only one in town, by the news media and, apparently, by atheists. Do you ever get the feeling you're beating a Straw Man to death?
So what you're saying is people who don't believe in God can't find reasons to be nice to each other? I don't believe in God, at least in the sense God is being used in this thread, and I find reasons every day to be nice to people and care about people. but God isn't a sadistic, perverted fuck. God is made in man's image, not the other way around. God is something created in the mind of humanity, therefore God reflects all traits of humanity -hence the Christian God being both a wrathful God and a bit of a fucking hippie. It reflects the extent of human emotion, from jealousy, wrath, sadism, pure evil to compassion and brotherly love.
well actually it, i refuse to call anything that's supposed to be an ultimate anything, he or she, may very well be everyone's neighbor, wherever they live in this entire unimaginably big universe. i think most of us are probably, hopefully, nicer then most fanatics portray any god as being. i just also happen to believe that most invisible things are more cool then not, and that fanatics of every stripe are full of their own bodily waste products.
Yes, I also often feel a slight hesitation when I'm rambling about God to call it he, him, etc. He's not our neighbour in the being nice for your neighbour sense though, and I think if there's some kind of deity that brought this all in existence there's no need for it to act nice at all. We humans invented that god should help out and be kind, get rid of diseases and every horror that might affect our joy. It seems more to me that it's a creator we don't know and not our good father who should be nice to us.
what i'm getting at though, is that there is nothing any human, or human institution, including any and every belief, actually knows about "god" at all. to clearify what i mean by saying "god" is the very probable existence of some one thing too big for any other one thing, or even a great many of them, to arm wrestle over the seating arrangements. it certainly doesn't owe anything to any belief, nor to anything any belief claims to know about it. however, it is quite reasonable to infer from our existence and continued existence, that it intends us no particular harm. father; not exactly nor even. creator of everything: not directly. too much diversity for any one creator, not matter how uber anything it might be. father of the decision for creation to occur, deligating or automating the actual work: possibly, but of no real pertinance to the question of it's existence. my subjective impressions are my subjective impressions from personal experiences i have actually had. they are not, nor am i, in any way intended to be authoritative. for that, if such be the case, the revealers of beliefs it chooses to be channeled by. by these i mean only the ones who come along once every thousand years or so.
Is any kind of thinking not given by God and something to be seen as a nice addition to be given (wether she gave it consciously or wether it merely flowed out of it's dream into our consciousness/grew into development in our universe or something)? And besides that he should also act nice as well? Perhaps our demands made God grumpy.. I don't think that's how it works What I think is that God does not act here at all in a way that resembles how any human might act. So it's not that he doesn't act nice, everything here we have thanks to her anyway, but it's more so that it does not act at all. Another thought: if we do not see his actions how do we have an indication how nice he is anyway
If I was a god I wouldn't create intelligent species like humans to ruin planets and universes. I would create a beautiful universe full of awesome stuff and lush planets with creatures living relatively happy despite being eaten by carnivores

If I created an ant farm; I don't think that I could take care of all the ants to those specifics. Stop demanding; if you imagine yourself as God; imagine yourself being demanded from by 8 billion people; of the 77 Billion that have lived on this world.
Faith in an entity is a choice Faith in a religion is flawed - still, whatever, I guess - you gotta have ... Faith
So you can top dying for mankind's sins? Were the ones with the capacity to lend a helping hand to the poor. We pretty much have the resources and the knowledge to make this life a wonderful adventure, but we don't because of some sick condition of our own psyches.
one can easily refrain from telling the lie that everyone who is born human has committed some great (or even minor) crime by having been.
