Hello! I would be very grateful if you could tell me what you think, or any similar experiences: I absolutely love meditation. However, it has been difficult for me to meditate fully lately. In my room, I can feel that I am beginning to enter into the meditative state, when I start feeling fearful and anxious: I begin to think words like "Lucifer" "Devil" "demons" over and over and over, when I don't even believe in them. I try to ignore it. Then I can sense other forms of consciousness, the air feels heavy, it sounds like a small animal, like a cat, is moving around on my covers, or on my floor. I feel vibrations, and as if I'm sinking or rising (depends on the session), I hear what sounds like whispers, and then ringing tones. A friend of mine said that this has happend to him many times, he thinks it's just a mental barrier that you have to embrace in order to "break on through to the other side". That it's not really evil, just a mental block. Then many Christians say it is the devil and demons trying to posess me, and I will go insane. I highly doubt that, but it still freaks me out. I've jsut been meditating around people now; at school, parks, etc. This doesn't happen when I'm not alone. Any thoughts ? Thank you so much!!
"when I don't even believe in them" is a judgment. Let go of judgments and preconceptions - your own and everyone else's - stay out of the boxes you use to categorize and accept/reject, and merely observe what is. Observe the experience but let it flow past you without touching you. Note your tendency toward fear and anxiety and then let it go and continue to just observe. I've experienced "evil" spirits. They have no power but the power you give them.
I have had trouble like this too in a way. Other people suggest imagining "white light" and surrounding yourself in it. Entities cannot handle it and leave immediately. Another is "pure love". Imagine the love you give to another person like your children or parent. Love is opposite of the entities that bother you and they will disappear when you have love surrounding you.
zengizmo, I heard the same old bromides about meditation making you vulnerable to evil spirits, but when I actually tried it, I found that it was actually a blessing, helping me find my center, get focused on things that are important and forget the trivia and worries. While we get a lot of useful advise from our friends, sometimes their assumptions are plain wrong or at least wrong for us. I am trying to find a balance between ignoring everything they tell me and doing everything they tell me. I think it boils down to allowing yourself to learn from others without letting other people doing your thinking for you. Distraction is a genuine concern but not an insurmountable problem. Kudos to e7m8 for suggesting group meditation or seeking an instructor! Meditation is a helpful tool, but not an all-in-one tool. If you have spiritual concerns, seek a minister in addition to, not instead of meditation. I hope you will let us know of your progress in the weeks to come!
You said a lot! I often used to take desert back roads for the pleasure of it. Sometimes I found myself following flat bed trucks laden with massive agave roots, the mother of the roughest firewater pulque and the most elegant of tequilas. I was intoxicated by the sweet fragrance of the raw product. And what can be better than a shot of tequila with a beer chaser, a big bowl of chips and fiery salsa, and your best amigos to wish you well after a hard day's work? And if the pretty mesera smiles at you a little more than she has to?...this is the perfect day. But tequila, this lovely nectar of the desert can sting like a scorpion if you spend the entire night with her. When she gets that much inside your head, maybe you want to take a taxi home and come back for the car tomorrow? Just a suggestion of course... And my thoughts have strayed far, far away from meditation, back to my long lost desert home, so please forgive me if you will. May the spirits leave your meditations undisturbed tonight. Vaya con Dios!
Thanks everyone for the advice and humor! A friend suggested that whenever I think of scary things like the devil, laugh at it. because it's not scary, it's hilarious And to pray to Shakti for protection. It's really been helping. I'm never afraid during daylight anymore, so that's an improvement.
Check out probablefuture.com, I love meditation too and remote veiwing and influencing, i got the training courses from that website, it's a very informative site and the training course are excellent, a little pricey but it's effortless just listen to the cd's while meditating, and i was in that state of fear but all i did was listen to those RV and RI hypnosis cd's and now i am no longer fearful and have had some amazing syncronicities and healings happen to me and have gone places in my mind and figured things out with ease. I highly highly recommend them if you want to take your meditation to a new level. Just a thought, Peace.
